And, aren't kids more susceptible to the ravages of a high fever?
Smaller bodies and all.

Yes, smaller body volume to dissipate heat.

Humor is the only way any of us stay sane.

Nothing to add, but just wanted to say that this is one of the few threads here that I've read every post on. Excellent, DBCowboy. Thanks.

Great respect and thanks DBC to you for this thread.

In reading the reports, and even more, your responses on this thread, it would appear that I find myself a likely target for this bug.

To the best of my knowledge, I have not yet been exposed.

However, about seven years ago I had multiple bypass surgery, so pre-existing heart condition. I am also a T2 diabetic, currently well controlled. And I am old enough to have retired.

The fun part is that I am in almost daily contact with the public, the lower socioeconomic end of the public. The end with little to no regular health care.

It’s tax season, and as a part-time seasonal preparer, my employer has little incentive to take any measures that would insure my isolation from exposure: the TB 3’ rule goes out the window when your cubicle is barely 8’ wide and you are expected to “face-to-face” with your clients to “demonstrate your sincerity and professionalism”.

If I...Well, you know.

Positive attitude! It’ll be fine.

As one of the few remaining “libitards” on these boards, I’m not going down without a dang good fight; certainly not to something as silly as “Wu Flu”!

ETA: Yes, there have been cases diagnosed in my county, one from Rocklin, CA just passed yesterday, I believe.

Now I have much greater respect for those coal mine canaries!

As we see people dying from this. Are there any averages of times between getting infected, getting ill to death?

I would like to extrapolate some numbers.

This may sound dark but I don't think enough people from enough groups has died yet to extrapolate an accurate timeline.

At least, nothing that I know of.

It's serious, but not "end-of-the-world-oh-my-god-we're-all-going-to-die" serious.

Dammit! I had already started thinking of where I could put all your stuff.

I was afraid of that. Kind of my job crunching numbers while the data is not complete as yet and give possible outcomes to different interpretations.

Which is really dangerous to post in public at the moment with the lack of proper interpreting by the public of these results.

Appreciated. As always.

DBC? Can I just say this ..we-EMT/Ambulance Responders aren't doing a single thing differently.

Nothing. Standard precautions. Think about that.

I got blood, guts, you name it

I hope like hell you're getting P100 masks.

No, and yes. Oh yeah. Since 2014...the city doesn't provide them, but we individually have them.

Not real practical in 911 calls, tho in 1st Response for ER's and Disasters, events etc...of course.

You know. We take the same precautions year in year out.

To put it succinctly, there is just not enough data points to model any reliable pattern beyond what we know already. And, I think that state of unknown is what is freaking people out a bit more. The public have these Hollywood expectations of the medical community that are totally unrealistic.

The medical community is on this, they are working as diligently as they can. They are humans, they need time to decipher this bugger, and figure out how it works and how to stop it.

This is not a 50 minute episode of a medical TV show.....this is real life.

Couple of “developments”:

My work schedule has been cut back significantly (no, I have never mentioned any apprehension or concerns despite my previous post in this thread); seems business has, all of a sudden, dropped off dramatically...just over the last weekend. Hmmm...!

That is completely contrary to what usually happens as April 15(-ish) approaches. Apparently, people are canceling their in office appointments.

And,

Went to local Starbucks and Noodles & Co restaurants today. Both had signs stating that “Out of concern for their customers, no “re-useable cups, plates, or silverware will be made available””.

No additional explanation was posted.

Reasonable precautions, for sure. Nevertheless, it gives me an unusually uneasy feeling.

We live in a society where we can sue people ( and actually win!) if they say something that hurts our feelings.

So is this over-kill?

Yes.

I could be a carrier and just walk into a store and walk out using the door handle and I've spread the virus.

Using my vivid imagination I have a terrible vision about the virus.

It'll alter human DNA and reshape next generation. This is how they'll accomplish their dream of a super race.

Defective/inefficient people will be eliminated and procreation will become selective as a consequence.

How cool is that😈👻💣

That's not imagined, viruses attach to us, and modify our DNA constantly..

Nearly 10 percent of the human genome is made of bits of virus DNA. For the most part, this viral DNA is not harmful. In some cases, scientists are finding, it actually has a beneficial impact. When viruses infectus, they can embed small chunks of their genetic material in our DNA
