Greetings, all.

I recently stumbled across references to MITRE Corporation, which I had never heard of before. I was rather stunned to discover how deeply they are entrenched in our military and intelligence networks. Other than an offhanded connection to "The Jason Group" and MITRE being a front for government research, I couldn't find much about it on ATS. Although, the "front for government research" label seems quite correct.

MITRE is rather open with its web presence, and there's a great deal to be learned from the site. Refreshing, given the recent government trend toward information blackouts: www.mitre.org...

It appears that the government is now contracting out a fair amount of jobs that used to be federal. MITRE itself has 5700 employees, and there's more than 300 openings posted. Take a glance through their job listings. For example, they're hiring Terrorism Intelligence Analysts, and they have openings for "Infrastructure Protection Engineers".

It looks like they've got contractors out at most of the intel agencies. They freely admit having 60+ people at the NRO office. MITRE also has its hand in quantum computing and cryptography, technology for GPS tracking of cell phones, and satellite communications.

Anybody have any more background on MITRE? Have I just had my head in the sand all these years, causing me to never hear about them?

Nope - they are by their own claims at the heart of the beast - yet I've never heard of them either
Thanx for the interesting info

just a bunch of MIT students under the guidance of mithras worshippers paving the way for the NWO

If I was hoagland kind of guy and see spriral galaxies in stirred coffeecream, I would say that MITRE is headed by:

www.physics.bc.edu...

the guy:
- studied at MIT
- directed the MITHRAS spectrographic lab.
- has a Phd. in everything concerning "Luminescence" wink wink

I don't know why those Al-Quiaida villains have bothered planning to kidnapp Russel Crowe to damage western culture, he does a great job as is by himselve, wouldn't it be more damaging to get some of those eggheads at MIT, the future stockpile stewards, the guys that dream up the fancy toys for the DOD???

Nothing "nefarious" about it, but it does raise my eyebrows. Why would the government turn over intelligence analysis to a private contractor?

Several answers come to mind:

1. Less Congressional oversight.
2. Fewer operational restrictions. (The CIA has constraints on spying on Americans, but a contractor is arguably not bound by those laws, even if he works at Langley HQ.)
3. Reduced public "right to know." Courts and Congress may allow sunlight to shine on government operations based on this theory, but it would not apply to a private company.
4. Increased protection of trade secret laws for their scientific R&D.

And FOIA be damned...

It appears to be mainly based on their being called mitre. Its the name of a hat, and the word is associated times with Mithras, one of the main competetor religions for christianity in the old days. The 'jason' group is also another classical reference. Please don't tell me that they make boats and jackets (argos, fleece, etc).

Sounds like bunkum to me, just a name that sounds cool.

Um,.....MITRE is an acronym for MIT Research Engineers.

It was formed by some MIT researchers who used to work for MIT's Lincoln Laboratory. They decided that they could make more money by going into the private sector, versus working at MIT/LL which is a federally-funded research and development center. Over the years MITRE grew into what it is today.

It's no big deal. I work right down the road from them, and have colleagues who work there.

Yes, but I doubt that they don't realize what it ends up spelling. Thats probably why they chose it.
