Well, I can post this stuff again:

Dead Vs. Recovered numbers are not great....

www.worldometers.info...

South Korea: dead 21, recovered 30 CFR 41%
Italy: dead 41, recovered 83, CFR 33%
Japan: dead 6, recovered 42, CFR 12.5%

There's also the cruise ship Diamond Princess
Dead 7, recovered 10, CFR 41%

Possibly 20% of those infected will have to be taken care of in the hospital for weeks.

The WHO sent 25 international experts to China and here are their main findings after 9 days

www.reddit.com...

5% of people who are diagnosed with Covid require artificial respiration. Another 15% need to breathe in highly concentrated oxygen - and not just for a few days. The duration from the beginning of the disease until recovery is 3 to 6 weeks on average for these severe and critical patients

Healthcare system: 20% of infected people in China needed hospital treatment for weeks. China has hospital beds to treat 0.4% of the population at the same time - other developed countries have between 0.1% and 1.3% and most of these beds are already occupied with people who have other diseases.

Pre-existing conditions: The fatality rate for those infected with pre-existing cardiovascular disease in China was 13.2%. It was 9.2% for those infected with high blood sugar levels (uncontrolled diabetes), 8.4% for high blood pressure, 8% for chronic respiratory diseases and 7.6% for cancer.

Just an approximation here.... Average Flu season 50 million infections requiring almost a million hospitalizations 2%. If those statistics from China hold true (20% requiring weeks in the hospital) and this virus is as easy or easier to catch as flu, then if 50 million got it that would be 10 million hospitalizations.

Let's hope this does not even get close to that level but for possibilities sake, those are the numbers.

Thoughts? ..........

I think were within this week and into the next watching this thing explode on the west and east coast........

From what were seeing, its within the period that people actually are bad enough to go to the hospital, which means they have been spreading it for at least a week.......

IF you retro that.........were looking at thousands ..........

I know 8k are under observations in california alone , from what the documentaiton says........and the CDC

But my hunch is this has been in the US at least a month........

If it’s anything like the Spanish flu, all we can really compare it to atm the last pandemic, excluding polio, it’s will be all over the place in a month. Question will be what does the summer do to it? Anyhow I will say this so far since we started watching it on the forums, this thing sadly has not really disappointed our speculation, those excluding the excited posters here and there proclaiming the Black Death was upon us, people dropping on the streets of China with heads exploding etc.

Really scary stuff, this may be the next paradigm shift. Anyhow sleep time for me, I have to work in the a.m good luck with you topic. Stay safe keep your hands washed no touching your face and take your vitamins.

God... are those figures real? That aint good. Yeah, it does sound like the worst cases need serious treatment. It'll be interesting to see if the mild cases remain "cured" and without repercussions.

Since we're reposting things that might have been missed, I'd point anyone to the following article about life in Wuhan over the past month. It is stark reading.

A month in locked down Wuhan

Thanks for making this thread, keen to discuss certain things about COVID-19 that get passed over due to the speed of the other thread. Looking forward to seeing your analysis. I'll prob post there and repost here for hopeful discussion. Some do frown on speculation on the other thread but whatever, I'd encourage you to post your stuff there also just to get people thinking.

It’s a general discussion thread, yours at that... make stuff up as you go along. We’ll call your bluff. So looking forward to this thread. We’re off to a great start! I look forward to your wild speculation and interesting and insightful extrapolations.

Thanks again for setting this up!

Well.....I have not had the feeling of ATS induced impending doom in a very long time....

I have become jaded from all the hype that never seems to come to pass....

I've been comparing this to the whole ebola thing awhile back....

Just today it seems this has become a much bigger deal then that.....

I'm so detached I'm more entertained than worried...

I do have a really annoying cold right now by the way..........wonder if I'm infected?

Hope not cause I gotta work tomorrow....

They changed it from nCov-19 to this for some reason, obfuscation and sowing confusion?

coronavirus disease

(COVID-19)

Virus
severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2
(SARS-CoV-2)

The Chinese did not want SARS in the name so WHO went with a different name. The Chinese government did not want this associated with the last SARS outbreak.

yes! you have done the needed thing!

sorry to be such a buzzkill in the updates thread but keeping things separate should help with the confusion that will inevitably ensue in the coming weeks.

danny.

Well, I'm hoping people will use this place to throw ideas around or vent, and the other for more concise and considered posts.
One a ball pit, the other a library.

Well, I read your post, and I think you're right. Speculation is through the roof with this, so I can understand it. But there is a gulf of difference between speculation, deeper concerns, conspiracy and actual facts. I'm glad you said something.

Oh, one last thing for the regulars to the main information thread... (as I'm about to go to bed.. it's late here in the UK!)

But if you could direct people over here when it seems appropriate, that'd probably help keep things in the right places.
Thanks all! I look forward to a catch up in the a.m.

Seriously though....

What are the odds, I have not been sick in over a year and starting yesterday I have this lame cold......my nose has been running uncontrollably....

Honestly, Im pretty positive It's just a boring old regular cold, but it's fun to think I might be dying....

I'll let you guys know if I do......

Don't come to Sitka if you don't wanna catch it...

Yeah, don't die. That would be a bit of a bummer. If I've learned nothing else, it is about the amazing properties of raw honey. For the price of it, I'd order a bucket full and keep taking it. Good for many things... my missus has been on about it for months, but I didn't pay much attention until all this. Food for thought... and the belly... and a cold for that matter.

You’re not. At least I hope not, supposed to be a dry congestion. I think I actually might have picked it up.

I’ve been having trouble breathing off and on for a couple weeks. I work weddings in CA and two weekends ago the brides family was from the Philippines. It was in the wild by then. I’ve been trying to take it easy, but my fight/flight has been in overdrive. Stupid update threads and my sophomoric musings haven’t helped.

F’ing terrifying, being short of breath. Been sick before. I feel fine most all the time, after the serious fever two weeks ago. But seriously I’ve never dealt with shortness of breath even though I smoke.

Trying to quit has been a B. But I want to live. You should too. Take care of yourself friend.

Here in my town nobody cares or seems worried about the virus....

I don't think anybody would say anything at work as of yet...

I am sniffly....if I was in some major city I'd probably make people very uncomfortable....

I'm actually gonna stay home if I get worse but I'm banking on feeling better in the morning...

I can't exactly afford the Corona virus at this time in my life...

Thank you, I'm sure I will...

I'm in the surviving demographic anyway....

I'd be more worried about spreading it....

And of course my family........

I'm only making light of things as a coping mechanism im pretty sure...

Apparently raw honey, turmeric, ginger, black pepper, garlic and Hydrogen Peroxide (3% added in water) are all things to be considered. SpartanStoic has a great bit in the update threads about what should be stocked; especially giving a nod to calories and protein sources for intake.

I’ve never prepped for anything in my life, so it’s been a learning curve for sure. I don’t care much for all this gloomy doom, I’m more into the Bigfoot, UFO, NWO type of stuff.

But this assembly is some of the best minds ATS has to offer
