A U.S Marine assigned to Fort Belvoir, VA tested positive today for COVID-19 and is currently being treated at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. The Marine recently returned from overseas where he was on official business. Secretary Esper and the White House have been briefed.
SEATTLE — A week after a deadly coronavirus outbreak was reported inside a nursing care facility in the Seattle suburbs, officials from the nursing home said on Saturday that they still do not have access to enough test kits for its remaining residents.
Tim Killian, a spokesman for Life Care Center of Kirkland, Wash., where 13 residents with the virus have died since last weekend, said that the tests so far provided by health officials were insufficient. The nursing home described a continuing crisis even as a strike team from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, including doctors and nurses, arrived on site to help the facility.
The home had received 45 virus testing kits as of Saturday afternoon, Mr. Killian said, which was not enough for the 63 residents still inside Life Care and dozens of staff members who have continued working at the facility through the outbreak.

I won't let me read that. Says it's not available in my region. Can you give a brief recap?
TOPEKA, Kan. —
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment confirmed its first presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in Kansas.
The presumptive positive case case was identified Saturday with testing sent to KDHE’s Kansas Health and Environmental Laboratories. These results will be verified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lab but will be treated as positive unless determined otherwise.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly said Saturday at a news conference the presumptive positive case was a woman from Johnson County.

About masks.
The NZ government has said they have 9 million n95 masks and 9 million surgical masks stockpiled for a pandemic scenario. We have less than 5 million people.
The US government has said they have 12 million n95 masks (plus another 5 million expired n95 masks) and 30 million surgical masks stockpiled. The population of the US is around 330 million people.
Think about that. They said they estimate they would need 3 billion masks in a worst case scenario. They have around one third of one percent of the n95 masks they need in the US.
That’s why they are telling you not to wear masks! They’re incompetence and shortsightedness means their medical staff have no protection.
That’s also why they are so reluctant to test people. Every time you test someone the doctor has to wear an n95 mask to protect against infection, as the nature of the test induces coughing and sneezing. But the mask is then contaminated and needs to be carefully replaced and discarded before seeing another patient.
Those n95 masks are like gold. Many hospitals are down to one or two packs left and no promise of any more coming anytime soon. They want to conserve the masks for when the epidemic hits and even then they’ll probably run out.
That’s why the nursing home workers in Seattle only have surgical masks, they don’t want to waste them on lowly care home staff who are probably already infected.
The incompetence of the whole American response is staggering to me. If I was American I would be furious. I can’t believe they only recently required manufacturers to ramp up production last week, they’ve known about this since January.
Incompetent #####!

I just checked Ebay and there is someone there selling the N95 mask 10 packs for $215.00. Shipping is extra. So yeah, seems some people stocked up on these masks with more than their own personal health in mind.

I told my wife I was going to take a week off from the news about Corona, but said if it hits here in our city/county, then likely that will go out the door.
20 minutes later... this happens...
It's HERE in our county. Wish I knew what part of the county.

I would be interested to see the effects on the reproductive system after 'recovering' from this virus
The jury is still out if we recover at all.
The long term effects are completely unknown
Unbelievable to see the start of this thing and the spread,
Infuriated at my government for taking such irresponsible and dangerous measures, dragging their feet
we have truly lost our soul allowing our most vulnerable in to be placed in danger.
Other changes in the number or structure of chromosome 4 can have a variety of effects including delayed growth and development, intellectual disability, distinctive facial features, heart defects, and other medical problems. Changes involving chromosome 4 include an extra piece of the chromosome in each cell (partial trisomy 4), a missing segment of the chromosome in each cell (partial monosomy 4), and a circular structure called a ring chromosome 4. Ring chromosomes occur when a chromosome breaks in two places and the ends of the chromosome arms fuse together to form a circular structure.
Changes in chromosome 4 have been identified in several types of human cancer. These genetic changes are somatic, which means they are acquired during a person's lifetime and are present only in certain cells. For example, rearrangements (translocations) of genetic material between chromosome 4 and several other chromosomes have been associated with leukemias, which are cancers of blood-forming cells.
Changes in chromosome 13 have been associated with several types of cancer. These genetic changes are somatic, which means they are acquired during a person's lifetime and are present only in certain cells. The loss of genetic material from the middle of chromosome 13 is common in cancers of blood-forming cells (leukemias), cancers of immune system cells (lymphomas), and other related cancers.
The number of deaths linked to coronavirus in Washington state could be even higher than the 16 already announced based on figures released by the nursing home at the center of the region’s outbreak.
The Life Care Center of Kirkland said Saturday that since Feb. 19, 26 of its residents have died. Typically, about three to seven residents die at the facility each month.
Of the 26 who died, 15 did so at hospitals where they were tested for COVID-19. But 11 died at the nursing home, and Life Care said it has no information about post-mortem tests to see if those 11 had the coronavirus.
The facility also said that 70 of its 180 employees have symptoms and are no longer working.
