In order, the numbers are your posts, your flags, your stars, your Way Above Top Secret score, and your experimental karma score (a calculation that takes into account your posting activity with applause and warnings from staff). The background color, opacity, and border-color will change to be more prominent based on the WATS score (previously shown by colored borders around posts).

Hey I just was compelled to sign up for the site because I just needed to write something, probably in general chit chat or rants. I'm going through a tough time and need to get it out of me. It took a lot for me to actually commit to it, just to feel a gut punch of seeing the 20 post requirement on new topics. It's not an "important" topic but is there a way I could apply to start a thread? It'd be only the one. Anyway thank you, and I should of signed up long ago.

I think you can start a thread in this (introductions) forum before the 20 post limit, and you could sneak some things in your "about me" when introducing yourself, which if it's still an introduction thread I don't think anybody will mind.

But yes you do need to have 20 posts to start a thread elsewhere.

No, avatars can be uploaded right off. At the bottom of this post is the graphic for our page, the avatar creations thread. Click on the link, and on the first page there are instructions there that should be helpful. I know, coz I did them...

Alternatively, if you want some custom work done that is uniquely yours, just post a request in the thread and the guys will sort you out.

Have you tried posting as FreeMason? Skeptic Overlord said he unbanned that account, so you should be able to use that. He may have blocked your new account somehow when he did that, but he didn't really say, just a guess on my part since you have over 20 posts and normally that's enough to start threads in other forums, except 911 which has its own requirements.

I discovered ATS a few years ago and found it interesting and i created an account few months ago. I just don't know if people are nice here.
