The big talk this weekend was all about the Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder fight so there wasn't much said about this remarkable story.

David Ayres is 42 year old a zamboni driver for the Toronto Marlies.
In a game vs Carolina, both goalies went down and they found a replacement in the zamboni driver and former goalie with the Marlies.
He played from the middle of the 2nd through to the end.

He was playing against his hometown team and guys he practices with regularly.

Midway through the second period, Ayres noticed his phone started to blow up. What he didn't realize was Mrazek had been hurt in a scary collision with Maple Leafs forward Kyle Clifford and was down on the ice. Next thing the 42-year-old Zamboni driver by day knew, he was walking down the tunnel and into the spotlight.
And not long after, he had an improbable first NHL win.

Even though he was playing AGAINST his team in his hometown, the crowd gave him a standing ovation and lots of support regardless.

What a great story!!

Full incident.

I think that is every Canadian boy's dream.
Not only did he get to do it...he was the game's first star.

Carolina players showered him with any liquid they could find after the game and he got the game puck as a souvenir.

Thumbs up to him!!

Here is the news story.

I love it as well!!
It must have sucked playing against his hometown team but he made history and both teams were classy about it.

They are flying him down for a Hurricanes game and are even doing little extra for him.

The Hurricanes started selling shirts with Ayres' name and No. 90 after the game. The team says Ayres will get royalties and a portion of the proceeds will go to a kidney foundation in honour of the goaltender, who underwent a kidney transplant in 2004.

It gets even better.

What's more, the stick Ayres used in the game is going to the Hockey Hall of Fame

Its a pretty cool story, thats for sure!!

Anytime you can see the Leafs taking it in the tailpipe its a great game to watch.

What an embarrassment to the entire Professional National Hockey League....sure this individual lived his Dream....but how in any reality can that Goaltender possibly play the 3rd period and not get blown up completely as was happening to end the 2nd with 2 consecutive easy shots going in on him.

I actually turned the game off during the 2nd Intermission because I had zero doubt that the poor guy filling in as the Emergency Tender was going to get blown up.... what a mistake on my part.....lol.

Only the Leafs who are run by a con-job Kid G.M with next to zero real life documented Hockey experience and who are Coached by a guy Greener than the Grinches boxers.....only a Team mismanaged to this extreme degree could allow this to even happen.

That is one game you do not want on your Resume if you are a Toronto Maple Leafs Player.

I hope someone gets this guy a Manager so he can make some real dough off of this event....endorsements ect ect...he only got 500 bucks for his work in the game...help the dude out man.
