Women's soccer puts a price on gender discrimination: $66M

Here we have yet another reason I don’t like soccer. The US women’s team has decided to ignore basic economics and decide their selfishness should result in more money because feelings. I can’t understand why someone doesn’t understand that their salary is based upon the revenue they generate.

I was already down on these women for their selfish, political stunts and poor sportsmanship during their latest World Cup appearance. Playing for your country is a privilege not a right. If you don’t see it that way then don’t play.

These people are terrible ambassadors for their boring sport.

Women on the U.S. national soccer team are asking for $66 million in damages as a result of gender discrimination. U.S. Soccer says the women's team negotiated for different contracts and benefits than the men's team. Trial is set to begin May 5.

Again, it is because of revenue not sexism. Once again reality is messing with their feelings.

Dumb...they don't draw in the same amount of viewers/fans...same can be said for wonen actors that complain about their pay...if they can't bring in the viewers why do they deserve equal pay. Now folks like Kristen Wig and Melissa McCarthy should command a comporable salary but again only because they can draw them in...

I wrote it off as soon as I read "women's soccer". Who the hell cares about anything regarding women's sports?? I'm a woman and I don't give a flying # about women's sports, lmao. Sorry ladies, we're not desirable to watch play a game.

Unless it's volleyball. And is the Swedish volleyball team. They're hot.

They don't see as many tickets or as much merchandise. Thus they are payed less.

Too bad the face of US women's soccer looks like a man. That and stomping on the flag might be another reason they aren't selling the tickets and merch.

The only way to be fair in this situation is for the elimination of split gendered teams.
Have just one team so everything is fair.

What the players get, regardless of gender/race/orientation/fairies/etc, is directly related to viewership and revenue.

Economics.
Nobody watches, nobody gets paid.

Very basic economics.
VERY very basic economics.

I am a mid forties male, who played soccer competitively and ran youth clinics. I was taught goalkeeping by Tony Diccico at his academy in the early 1990's.

I actually prefer watching the women play, they seem to work harder, and play with an intensity that to me is on another level.

I wish I could say I disagree with you And back this lawsuit .

But I can't. The numbers just aren't there...yet.

The men's team will never be a class above there peers as the woman's U.S. is.. it's a simple fact. Our woman's team PROGRAM is top notch and supported from grass roots park and rec, all the way up the line like no other countries. it is a testament to our national effort to encourage women to excel.

But again the numbers,sadly, don't support the suit.



Also, the few who do make huge endorsement deals..AHEM.. Megan ..cough..Rapenho's.. fail to mention how they profit while lesser known teammates "struggle"..

Wow - its crazy that they think they should be paid the same. Perhaps their next contract should be re-worked so that their salaries equate to the same percentage of profits as the mens' team.

I had a female co-worker who generated twice the profit I did over the past two years. She was an absolute beast, and made - you guessed it - twice as much money as me. Should I sue based on discrimination because she got paid more than me?

I think I read an article written right after the women won the World Cup and it said that they are paid a percentage of the total revenue.

They were complaining then that they made less total money than the men but they were already making a higher percentage of revenue than the men.

I did a lot hands on research as a teen....

Rapinoe and her political BS completely turned me off to women's soccer, just like Kaepernick did with the NFL for me. I couldn't care less about these spoiled brats anymore.
