A Thai soldier has gone on a gun rampage inside a shopping mall, killing at least 20 people and taking a dozen hostages while live-streaming the mass murder on Facebook and posing for selfies. Sergeant Major Jakrapanth Thomma, 32, began his murderous rampage this afternoon at his barracks, where he executed his commanding officer along with two other soldiers, before commandeering a humvee and tearing away from the scene. As he drove along the motorway toward the Terminal 21 shopping mall in Nakhon Ratchasima, a city 155 miles northeast of Bangkok, Thomma opened fire on civilians along the road. The soldier targeted several places, including a house, a Buddhist temple and an army base during his murderous rampage, before heading to the mall where he is believed to have holed up with terrified hostages. Later, hundreds of people were able to escape after police and soldiers stormed the shopping centre but the gunman has not been found and is thought to be still at large nearby - after his killing spree in which 31 were also injured.
Authorities have now sealed off the shopping centre as they desperately try to find the shooter - who is earlier thought to have shot a doctor helping an injured person. The gunman earlier posted photos of himself online dressed in full tactical gear and holding a rifle which he smuggled from the army compound's arsenal.

Seems like the end of the World is among us and people are going crazy! What with the coronavirus aswell doing the rounds.
I think people are losing it and giving up all hope.
He's still at large!
I don't know much about Thailand, so just posting this as its just come up on dailymail website:

a bit more:

I guess we can say a least it wasn't in the USA this time.
so i am still unsure if they stopped him yet, but the first attempt to get him apparently failed and one thai cop(?) was killed.
Thai media said the suspected shooter had worked at an army base close to Nakhon Ratchasima, which is about 250 km (155 miles) from the capital Bangkok. Before the attack, Jakrapanth had posted on his Facebook account that he was out for vengeance — but he did not say for what.
so seems he may have had some kind of explosives or the cops used some but he repulsed their first attack and they say "assault weapons" plural so who knows what kind of firepower he brought with him other then his HK service rifle
Early on Sunday, gunfire broke out at the mall as security forces tried to dislodge the soldier, identified by police as 32-year-old Jakrapanth Thomma, who is armed with assault weapons stolen from his barracks. Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters at the scene that one member of the security forces had been killed and two wounded in the raid. As he spoke, a series of explosions and further shooting echoed from the Terminal 21 mall.
so far least from this article hes not indiscriminately firing any more but may be saving ammo for if the cops come try to find him again but id predict this either ends in a last stand or a suicide if things calm down for a bit
A photo circulated on social media that appeared to be taken from the Facebook page shows a man wearing a green camouflaged military helmet while a fireball and black smoke rage behind him. Jakrapanth's profile picture shows him in a mask and dressed in military-style fatigues and armed with a pistol. The background image is of a handgun and bullets. The Facebook page was made inaccessible after the shooting began. Terminal 21 Korat, a multi-level glass and steel mall is designed to resemble an airport terminal, complete with a mock control tower and departure gates. A large model passenger jet dangles from wires beside one of the main escalators.
so now we wait to see if we get real motive or just the theories floating around
A soldier who killed 21 is shot dead, after being cornered all night in a shopping centre, police say.

Let me guess...It's a 'gun free zone'???
He started by killing the commanding officer at the Suatham Phithak military camp and, apparently, a soldier.
I doubt a military camp is a 'gun free zone'.
some people tried to hide in the freezers and it did not end well for them as other released videos show 4-6 dead bodies around the gun mans as cops are clearing the scene
Authorities brought the gunman's mother from his hometown in Chaiyaphum Province to an area near the mall but she was unable to get inside, said Maj. Gen. Jirapob Puridet, who led the security team inside the building. The mother, whose name was withheld, told him there was little point in talking to her son anyway, as he had depression and an extremely bad temper. The gunman had a machine gun that he had stolen, with around 800 rounds of ammunition and two short guns, Puridet said.
sadly the death toll has been raised to 29 as a few more died in the hospital during surgery
Earlier Sunday, Thailand's Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said the rampage was sparked by an argument the gunman had at his base with another soldier over a land-selling commission fee. He added that the gunman had taken hostages during the later standoff but didn't elaborate on how many or what happened to them. "In general, any military (officer) would be good at guns, but this man certainly has more skills," defense ministry spokesman Lt. Gen. Kongcheep Tantravanich said.
