US choked Iran with sanctions and now wants to de-escalate with more sanctions. Really makes a lot of sense

It's likely the Iranian airstrike was a deal negotiated through back channels , both sides get what they need and war is averted.
I'm not buying that at all, you said that Trump was a danger to the international community, you've been proven wrong.

Now, you're backtracking to the possibility of back channels? Now you're sounding like a regular, Mr. Conspiratorial Gortex

some will not acknowledge in any way an actual plan or strategy as they cant see it and the msm hasnt spoonfed it to them

if this is not proof of an overall strategy i dont know what is

this all got turned to the nuclear deal that was terrible and torn up earlier by this admin
impressive imo

Well, two lessons for the hysteric left and the media today.

The only way to make a bully to back down is to stand up to him.
There's a wide variety of options between the outright appeasement of the Obama era and all-out war.

You don't have to like Trump to acknowledge that this whole affair was an big win for him.

We'll see what the Grand Ayatollah says. Sounds/feels like Iran and the US have already started talking to each other behind the scenes.

the plane was an unfortunate accident p that was unexpected and they haven't even determined if it was air defenses that downed the aircraft, even if it was, air defenses aren't automated and are prone to human error so all it takes is one panicked air defense commander issuing the order to shoot a plane down due to ignorance of the situation.
edit on 8-1-2020 by namehere because: (no reason given)

This was the biggest lie the Democrats and media sold the American people about the JCPOA. They presented it like the ONLY options were
1) that joke of a deal that didn't even stop them from pursuing a nuclear weapon, or
2) a full-scale war with another Iraq-style invasion.

There are many other ways to deal with Iran.

Pleasantly surprised he's taken the right decision and is seeking de-escalation. After the stuttering Pentagon official came out with false claim after false claim I was worried it was going to be an announcement of war.

Was pretty confused by the nuclear agreement comments though as the UN and EU have been in renegotiation for a while to ban Iran from executions and add humanitarian improvements central to the agreement.

I usually do ignore propaganda outlets.

Any reason why I shouldn't ?

When direct sources are quoted, then whatever other paragraphs around it could be interpreted as an opinion, however the direct quotes are not an opinion, they are FACTUAL, regardless of the source.

Now serious, I've got better things to do than trying to explain the basics of journalism

I'm an ex-journo. PressTV are State owned Iranian propaganda outlet who are banned from most of the world because the reporting is so bad. The direct quote may or may not be true as they have a long history of making them up.

There's no direct link to the quote, which is basic journalism transparency, so without using credible media outlets to back it up it's impossible to verify and should be treated with healthy skepticism. It's also basic journalism to second or tripple source such things. As it uses generic 'millitary said' instead of naming the source it needs at least three independent verifications to back it up to meet press standards.

Yet again Trump sounded like a rambling incoherent fool.

I disagree, although I didn't catch the whole speech, I did not hear anything that stuck out as you describe..believe me I'm not a fan.

Credit to him for not escalating this.

Right, which wouldn't happen if the missile strikes were just a show that they pre-arranged with us. They wouldn't be on alert and worried about a counterstrike, and the shootdown wouldn't have happened.

All of that stands true , this execution and climb down has done nothing to change that.

If you don't think there are back channels at times like this then you're naive.

He mis-spoke like 3 words in a 9-minute speech and that's all the hardcore leftists are gonna focus on because they were embarrassingly wrong on this. They badly wanted a war because it would help them win in November. They're upset as # they're not gonna get one. Almost as bad as when Mueller went bust.

Pathetic.

There were UK citizens on that plane Iran shot down. And you're more concerned about the word choice of the President of another nation.

Yeah...

You don't get it.

Let me explain. The goal of the sanctions is to get the 70% of the population that is under 35 and largely unemployed to rise up and take over the government.

Trump was talking to them when he said he sees potential for Iran and that they can succeed if they stop spreading violence.

No, what's naive is your inability to be critical at any point of this whole endeavor.

The results of this whole event was a real world test on Trumps resolve, he passed overwhelmingly, it has proven your OPINION wrong.

However, TDS is the primary catalyst for your views on Trump, which aren't meant to be taken seriously, as recent actions have proven otherwise.

FYI, backchannels exist as a means of communications for a variety of reasons and not your ill attempt at trying to rationalize a Trump victory as some insidious deal made, lol.

Knowing Russia could have been drawn into any conflict on the side of Iran, Trump was always going to back down.
