Not strange at all....US forces hands were tied in Vietnam as it was a "police action". There was no strategy and the politicians tied war planners hands. Same thing is happening in Afghanistan.

Now you want to do a proper comparison lets go with Sadaam vs US in 1991. Properly planned and excecuted strategy resulted in decimation of Iraqi forces.quickly.
Now afterwards? Politicians would not come.up with an dxit strategy and we were NOT designed as a police force.
