Last I saw was that there was an attack on US Africa Command base in Kenya by al Shabaab.

Also read that four militants were killed, but it's not in the release.

Al-Shabaab has put out multiple press releases exaggerating the security situation on the ground. This practice has proven common place for this terror organization.

Situation at Manda Bay still fluid after Al-Shabaab attack - US

AFRICOM Headquarters is in Stuttgart, Germany. He's not going to be traveling to remote bases like Manda Bay without good reason. So unless something happened in Germany that we haven't heard about yet, the chances of this being a hoax are very high.

How did they know it was him ?

One U.S. service member and two American Department of Defense contractors were killed in a terror attack on a military base in Kenya that houses some U.S. military personnel. The Somali terror group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack that Kenyan authorities said had been repelled with four militants killed in the fighting.

Shabab is as much an enemy of Iran as they are anyone.

They wouldn't be helping Iran but would try to do incidents that will enflame the strife between Iran and the US.

I think you oversimplify things. They are an Al-Qaeda offshoot, who are heavily supported by Iran.
