Nine months would have provided more than enough time for POTUS to brief Congress on this guy.

There are days when I wish I was in the Mud Pit... especially where Nancy Pelosi is concerned...

Fair enough.
Now, was this guy in a compromised position nine months ago? Was he vulnerable nine months ago? Did we know where he was nine months ago? Did we have a clear and immediate reason (the attacks on our embassy) to take him out nine months ago?
Military action is fluid. It is not static. Neither of us know the answers to those questions... but Donald Trump does. He gets briefings every day on these people as part of his job. It is not our place to second-guess every single bullet that comes out of a barrel or every missile that leaves its launch pad. Nor is it Congress' job. Their oversight is general, not intended to make a siting President ask for permission while the situation is changing rapidly, likely losing the opportunity to strike. I would expect that Trump did keep the Congress informed of this guy's existence (they all seem to know exactly who he was); he just didn't tell the strike team to wait until Congress was back in session so he could ask for permission to do something that obviously needed to be done.
Not to mention, Congress was out of session until today. Who was he supposed to ask permission of? The janitor?

I'll give this some more thought and give him the benefit of a doubt for now.
We'll wait to see what happens.

I know what ATS as a whole is going to say. Rah-Rah strong man Trump war is good, aren’t you glad we have a strong leader BS.
I’m more of the mind that this is just regular Trump projection. He accused Obama of everything that he did because that’s what he would have done in the same situation. It seems to be the Republican Party line to assume everyone is as crooked as they are.
Believing that lets them rationalize all kinds of bad behavior.

Ah, so now we cannot use drones for military purposes unless the public votes on it?
What military purposes? The military and its safeguards has been taken out of the loop, now it’s on the CIA.
The new authority – said to have been granted shortly after Mr Trump’s inauguration – takes drone strikes out of the sole control of the military, sparking fears about accountability.
Under the drone policy of the Obama administration, the CIA could find a suspect, but the armed forces would carry out the actual strike.
Unlike the Pentagon, the CIA does not need to disclose drone strikes — or any resulting civilian casualties.

The military not being a part of it anymore is the problem. Maybe you should read the article to have an idea of what you’re talking about.

According to this article , people on Twitter are quickly pointing out how Trump, in 2011, 2012 and 2013 had repeatedly claimed that President Obama was about to enter a conflict with Iran in a bid to win reelection.
In order to get elected, @BarackObama will start a war with Iran.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 29, 2011
Now that Obama’s poll numbers are in tailspin – watch for him to launch a strike in Libya or Iran. He is desperate.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 9, 2012
Polls are starting to look really bad for Obama. Looks like he'll have to start a war or major conflict to win. Don't put it past him!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 17, 2012
Don't let Obama play the Iran card in order to start a war in order to get elected--be careful Republicans!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 22, 2012
Trump continued with the claim during Obama’s second term in office:
I predict that President Obama will at some point attack Iran in order to save face!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 16, 2013
Hmm... What's not good for the goose (Obama) is good for the gander (Trump)?
Funny timing, this recent attack on Iran. Really makes you wonder, given his previous comments about starting a war to win reelection, if that's not what's going on right now.
And does anyone know, just one person, what his long term foreign policy is pertaining to Iran? Foreign policy on anything? From what I've seen over the last three years, his lack of understanding foreign policy, and the potential consequences thereof, is just crazy and SO dangerous. And we are trusting this man to make unilateral military decisions without the consent of Congress?
There's no question that Gen. Qassem Soleimani had American blood on his hands, but such a blatant disregard of proper protocol, which provides for checks and balances, is unacceptable in this situation. I'm so tired of the tit for tat that's been going on in D.C.
What say you, ATS?
