I sat in on a bigger oil company meeting in December for the Bakken.

They estimate that if we can get the infrastructure up for getting rid of Nat Gas they can get to a steady 2 million bbls a day.

That supply they are estimating to be good for about 600 years.

So yea... we don't really need oil from outside the US.

Since the oil has been under our feet all along, what prevented the U.S.A. from tapping it sooner? Inadequate Technology, or Environmental Groups, or a combination of things?

Since the oil has been under our feet all along, what prevented the U.S.A. from tapping it sooner? Inadequate Technology, or Environmental Groups, or a combination of things?

They took horizontal drilling (which has been around since the 70's) and hydraulic fracturing (used before in the Nat Gas industries) and applied them to oil.

Which brought on the Shale Revolution, in terms of oil production.

Regulations are a killer for the industry as well...

The Bakken, for instance, can only produce as much oil as they can get rid of Natural gas.

So for years now there have been wellsites sitting there that cannot produce because they cannot get rid of the Nat Gas the site produces with oil.

THAT is a problem because the infrastructure to pipeline it wasn't put in in the Obama years much... permitting was insane and the costs were prohibitive.

The other two ways to get rid of Nat Gas onsite is to send it to flare (which is heavily regulated, heavily taxed and a real pain in the ass AND has a cap to how much you can burn) or you bring in someone like me to strip the gas of most of the hydrocarbons, send the rest to flare as a clean burn (less taxes paid, less volume burnt) and the processed gas (NGL and condensate) is sent to market via tanker truck.

Refineries can be built, but the people who build the refineries need a political climate where it is possible.

For instance, there is a refinery being built right down the road from me... 2.7 billion dollars of refinery that was approved in 2012 but was not built because of the fears of what the regulation changes would be under Obama.

It started being built once Trump got into office.

Who is the ruling party and President makes a HUGE difference in the oil industry.

Which is about 8% of our GDP and a few million REALLY good paying jobs.

The Obama years really scaled down production in the Bakken... lots of people went broke sitting on oil wells that they couldn't produce out of because of regulations.

Just my 2 cents from where I sit in the business and sorry Mods for going somewhat off topic.

they bombed Iraqi personnel backed by iran? they killed 25 people? along with some militants operating under Iraqi law enforcement?

Murdering US embassy personal does not bring back those people neither will it undo the mistakes that have been made in the past.
