Hi CJ!

Thanks, I've played in a variety of bands over the years... (This may take a wee while to explain... please bear with me!)
I spent well over 25 years drumming in a rock band with my mates.
Looking back, we were very busy and I played over a thousand gigs/shows over the years... I think?
We started out as a punky/rocky, 3-piece originals band, but ended up recruiting a front man and doing more and more covers as that got us a lot more bookings.
I always was a "bedroom guitarist / singer" too, but never really had the chance to explore taking that further until the last 8 years or so when I stopped drumming with the band.

I set up my own acoustic duo (called BlonnaHooley) around that time. Playing Acoustic guitar and singing.
I gigged around the local pubs a fair bit with a few different playing partners in that duo but ultimately things never quite worked out the way I'd have liked, so I've shelved that for a while and decided to take an "easier" route and just play rhythm guitar for an established band!
I found one on the musicians wanted pages online about a year... maybe 18 months ago? nailed the audition and was asked to join up there and then.
I then discovered that they weren't really "established" as such. They had formed just a few weeks before but then a couple of guys left!!
I ended up being frontman / lead singer, rhythm guitarist, PA guy, T-Shirt guy, song/set provider etc etc etc
I even ended up naming the band!! (ShoogleRoon) and got very frustrated at continually having to do lots of stuff that shouldn't really have been my responsibility.
It was much harder and more stressful than what I'd given up, so once I'd fulfilled my gigging commitments with them I left the band. That was just a few weeks before this virus crapola hit us all! LOL

We did record some early stuff in the studio with the rock band many years ago, but I'm not sure where the recordings ended up. (I think the main guy in that band has them online somewhere) There are a couple of music videos on youtubby that I could dig up...

I've never really recorded my own acoustic stuff professionally, but have made quite a few home recordings/live videos, although I haven't ever played live online until 5 weeks ago when I started doing the FB sets during lockdown.
It's nerve-wracking!!!!! I find it really hard without a live audience, I don't know how so many other folks seem to be so relaxed when they're singing to.... a phone??? LOL

Anyways, THANK YOU for listening and for asking about my music stuff - I hope that I haven't bored you too much!
Now.... it's your turn!!! Spill The Beans man!!

Jesus Gordi is being humble a Scottish thing? Holy smokes man, good on you.

I thought it a little strange when you posted your first vid and were like "yeah I hit a beer bottle and learned how to tune my guitar." My ass.

Chaisn the cat is great quality! Why did you stop?

Get a mac. Use a silly program like garageband. Record your self, double and harmonize the vocals, turn one acoustic guitar line into an electric.

Seriously man, what are you doing? Record yourself!!

(Good Irvine Welsh quote):

“Aye Oedipus, yir a complex #er right enough”

haha!
uhm... the rock band fizzled out when the "main man" decided that he wanted two shares of the money instead of one.
To be fair, he did a lot of work behind the scenes but he was also my business partner at the time, and I didn't want him to think he was my "boss" in the band AND at work!! LOL
I was getting on a bit (age wise) I wasn't in the best of health and was thinking about hanging up my drumsticks anyway, so it just made sense for me to leave the band. They tried to replace me, but it never worked out for them!

I quite like the idea of doing better quality recordings of my own stuff, but frankly didn't think that anyone else would be interested in them. There are so many really talented youngsters out there!

Re: the humble thing.... Yes, I think that Scots are generally quite humble, but I like to think of myself as just being honest. I'm self-taught and clumsy as a big clumsy thing when playing guitar (or drums).
I know so many real musicians who can knock spots of me that I don't know whether to feel inspired or to set fire to my guitars!!
I am happy that my voice has improved over the years though. I think that was probably just a confidence thing?

Now, your turn!

I just don't get people like you...kind of pisses me off frankly. (joking)

First of all singing is almost impossible and you can sing. Second of all you have timing. Third you can play.

Fourth who cares if others want to hear it? Its for you! In 5 minutes you have a bass line and a basic drum track over your stuff.

Sorry if this is redundant - you probably have protools or something.

I just know how hard it is to do and make it interesting. Actually I don't know but I try.

Kinda wish you were down the street. We'd hook it up even if my mix sounds crappy we'd have a good time.

I'm busted for this but whatever. Night Star is asleep and I'll deal with the repercussions tomorrow.

Im not kidding when I say a neighbor down the street came over one night and in one night with no idea what we were going to do we got this: Not anything at all special and kinda terrible actually but random beer night with a neighbor for 3 hours and we got a song!

I put some photos I took outside the homestead in a storm for the vid.

We have dozens of these and have 0 pretense (perhaps because it is flat out bad). Its just fun, never will mean anything other than to us.

Also these vids are the last vids in the last 7 or 8 years ive put up. I just made them the last couple nights. Music is terrible when it is me directing but I dont care. You can tell my younger brother was not there that night.

Have a good one and hope to hear from you soon!

Edit to add after watching that I think caught a phantasm around 2:06 right hand side lol.

Yeah, I'd love to have other people to jam with here too!
I miss my festival buddies a lot when we can't get together. Most of my playing these days USUALLY happens around a campfire somewhere, but lockdown is just killing that stone dead, so all I have is the wee live FB sets.

I really liked the feel in that track you just linked CJ, especially the main Bass-line (on keys?). I can actually see that track being used as the main theme song for an edgy cop drama or NCIS style show on TV! REALLY!!! DEFINITELY!!!

More please!!!!

I did.

Superb performance. Great voice. I admire you (and Jens) for your musical gifts.

Bookmarked to check out more in a couple of hours. Bad shape now but i need a couple of hours to fix that issue.

You know i really tried to learn to sing when i was younger. It didn't work out. Then i did what some people who can't sing do, and got deep into the rap game. I got a little better than an absolute beginner but not anywhere near good. Just beer freestyles for my friends. Always scared of failing. Many times failing. But they are my friends so they only laugh in goodwill if i fail.

I am super picky when it comes to rap. I absolutely refuse to listen to stuff where women are treated like objects, or if there is glorification of violence or drug use. So there is not much rap i can listen to.

WOW my friend sent me a video of his 6 year old daughter riding a bike across a field. Without training wheels! She learns new stuff all the time.

I can't understand my youtube "wall" anymore. I love youtube AI. It knows me better than i do. Seems like i have been listening to really dark, sad music, or then right from the other angle, Tibetan bells, slow cello, reiki healing music and so on.

Why can't i just listen to "normal" music

The FinRap Legacy

There's a rapper from Finland by the name of "Finspiracy"
He doesn't listen much 'cause it makes him feel misery,
With the haters and the hurters makin' sacrilege and heresy,
Is it time for him to man up and create a new legacy?

A legend of the rhyme pays no heed to complicity,
Falling in step with the demon democracy.
Killin' it fast both rhythmically and lyrically,
Hell, It might even prove to be a great piece of therapy.

Layin' it down whilst rising to supremacy,
He don't need no Gangsta talk, no violence or tyranny,
All he needs to do, is to listen to me seriously,
An' he'll be rising up fast man, goin down in History!

WOW! I did not know you were like that. Some real verbal talent once again, from you, from a different angle.

I cried a little bit but i am a soft man and therefore, so what?

It is actually a bit funny, i made lyrics just a couple of days ago and now i read lyrics from you. After very many years.

Is that the... synchronicity thing? I have tried to understand the concept but like.... something about never happens, then the same thing happens many times during a short period of time?

My battle rap

I have a Finnish power metal band "Stratovarius" Blasting loud!

From headphones of course. In my neighborhood, i have a reputation of being the calm, silent and polite one. I intend to keep it that way.

They haven't been here! Inside my apartment looking at me rocking!

I don't know maybe it is a facade. But i enjoy being considered as the calm, silent and polite one.

Aye Fins, S Y N C H R O N I C I T Y !!

I actually believe that we humans have lost a lot of our natural abilities by living such unnatural lives (in buildings with artificial light, heat, electricity, gadgets etc around all the time).

Some of those lost abilities are physical: strength, speed, stamina...
But some of them are mental: Intuition, gut-feelings, even telepathy!
When you are "in-tune" with someone, I believe that you can tap into their thoughts or at least their train of thought?
Sometimes, I have scared the bejeezus out of people by predicting EXACTLY, very specifically what they are thinking about!
Example: My best friend of many years had got engaged to be married and we were all out for a meal to celebrate. He took me aside and told me that he had booked their honeymoon and said "you'll NEVER guess where we're going!!"
I replied "Antigua" and his jaw hit the floor!! (He hadn't even told his fiancee (or anyone else) yet!)
The real killer is... at that time.... I have NEVER heard of Antigua before!! I just blurted out the first word that popped into my head!
Example 2: Met a girl at a party. We'd never spoken before. The conversation came around to our ambitions in life...
"You'll never guess my ambition!" she says.
"You want to go to Egypt to see the Pyramids" I reply.
And YES... I was spot on.
She got a bit freaked out and couldn't understand how ANYONE could have known that!
She left the party shortly after.

My point is this:
I believe that when two (or more) people are "on the same wavelength" that they can tune into one another's thoughts.
Are you sitting down? because.....
I have NEVER written Rap lyrics before. Never Ever.
And I didn't know that you'd recently done some either!

S Y N C H R O N I C I T Y my friend!!

Look Gordi, I was thinking about sending you a PM but i might as well make it a confession.

When the millennium changed, i was very lost and sick. I still am but then it was worse. Way worse.

I used to wake up really early. Like 5 or 6 AM. I looked at them, driving, i was watching them from my former apartment's window.

I did that out of pure contempt.

I was thinking that little ants are going to serve their miserable duty on behalf of their queen. Sacrificing themselves for the capitalism GOD. They have 2.4 children (per average) and they have a golden retriever and a volvo. How BORING is that? I admit, it was pure contempt.

Now i am already 38 years old, i have no job i have no wife no kids. Now i want to be that "ant"

I understand that their jaws dropped

Maybe you have to make an own thread about this. ATS is interested and there are very clever and lovable souls here.
