UPI on Dec. 12: “Senate Foreign Relations Committee has passed a bill to explicitly prohibit any president of the United States from withdrawing from NATO without congressional approval.”

www.breitbart.com...

The bill must be approved by the full Senate. It would clarify what it takes for the USA to exit a treaty. The action was prompted by concerns that Trump might pull the USA out of NATO, which I favor unless the other members start pulling their weight by spending at least 2 percent of their GDPs.

But even if all members were to grudgingly boost spending after getting a free ride from the USA for so long, the alliance has nothing to offer us (or Canada). Our freedom is not at stake in Europe, which is almost as wealthy as we are, has 50 percent more people, much more advanced technology than Russia, superb military equipment, vast experience in warfare, and nuclear weapons as a last resort. They can easily defend themselves.

I don’t like our commitment to wage nuclear war on any nation that uses nukes on a NATO member, nor do I want us to automatically declare war on any nation that attacks a NATO member with conventional arms. I seem to recall WWI began in a similar fashion.

We’ve been sucked into three European conflicts in the last 100 years and protected Western Europe from the Soviet Union and Russia for 70 years. We should have heeded Washington’s advice not to get involved in Europe’s wars. We could save a lot of money by not concerning ourselves with Europe’s defense, or we could shift more of our military resources to the Pacific if necessary.

Europeans despise us and aren’t the least bit grateful for what we’ve done and continue to do for them. Well, I’ll admit the Poles and other former Warsaw Pact nations appreciate us, but Western Europeans seem to think we’re evil incarnate. To hell with ‘em I say. If they want to defend themselves, it just takes willpower and money. No more American blood for Europeans! What have they ever done for us since France helped us gain our independence? We always end up helping them, never the other way around.

Democrats have become the party of foreign intervention and perpetual war it seems. They want America to remain the world’s policeman, dooming our young men to die half way around the world in conflicts that don’t affect our security or freedom. We should only go to war when our security and freedom are threatened, or to get revenge when foreigners kill our people as in 9/11.

After 911 NATO came to our aid. It's the only time any country has invoked NATO's Article 5.

Have you forgotten Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and George Bush?

That is a good bill. A president should not be able to pull out of agreements like NATO without congressional approval. This includes all presidents, no matter what party they are in.

Stuff like pulling out of the climate change agreement a new president should be allowed to do. In fact, A president should have to approach congress if they give a lot of money to any program, such as giving Ukraine money. Each time the money dispersal should have to be approved. All aid should need to be approved by our lawmakers, a simple approve or disapprove box is all that needs to be checked. If the numbers are close to half or over, the president then would have the right to approve it without even a majority. If say a minimum of forty five percent of congressmen approve it, then the president could approve it. This way there would be no things like Biden interfering in the business of other countries.

That was drawn up before the recent NATO
meeting. (think Kerry/Biden attempt)
for example.

It is all null and void to great extent now.

In other words, NATO Admirals will no
longer be the highest authority in
the chain of command.

The People of The United States of America
and their President have spoken.
Otherwise it is "Bombs Away".

I could be convinced either way on this Bill. I don’t want us to have to stay in bad trade deals and climate change BS, but for military things like NATO maybe let Congress have some control. Only Congress can declare war at this point so maybe it is along the same line of logic.

Ummm...I’m afraid this is just another usurpation of executive powers by the legislature...

I don’t think this will pass the SCOTUS smell test...as it shouldn’t...

It’s kind of eye opening to see some of these comments in favor of this separation of powers usurpation...

This is a microscope on how this incrementalism by global progressives works...

And the plebes just eat it up like so much manna...

“You have a republic...if you can keep it”...comes to mind...

“Death by a thousand cuts”...also comes to mind...

HooHaa!
Keep on paying to

They love sucking off the
Socialist tit.
But your cool with paying it on
April 14th every year.

And when that was not enough,
they borrowed a "thousand points of light"
on you and who you are from the Chinese.
You are the commodity now.
Your "Biometrics" are the gamble
of "Capital and Labor".

My friends in EEEYUUUU love your
tax dollars, HooHaa, while we balance SNAP.
It all made sense in the waning days of WW2
as a way to contain the advance of The Soviets.
But why still now?
Consider this, Another World War initiated in
the EU,by the EU bankers? Do you really think
that China, Russia, or The United States would
buy in to that request of a few money dancing
poppycocks?

How did NATO come to OUR aid after that invocation?

NATO = a bunch of nations relying on the US.

Why do they rely on us? Nukes and military spending.

Without the US funding it, there literally is no NATO.

That would be a subverting the power of the executive branch.

Congress has sole power in negotiating/enacting treaties, POTUS has sole power of removal of treaties.

No, congress should NOT have a say in this without proper legislation to override the executive (that takes a lot)

Exactly.
It was through

The U.S.Taxpayer paid
dearly for it.
For half of the time, it
was diversion, subversion,

What a bunch of horses##t. You have NO IDEA how much you guys gained from wars in Europe. You guys did not come to Europe toprotect us but to compete with Russia (protecting your interests) , because if you didnt you would not be the ones making the calls today. It would be Russia instead. Also ever heard of Operation Paperclip?
There is so much more to the reasons you guys came here than you know.

But its probably not your fault but your sh##ty education system. And yes I can compare... I lived in the states for several years. In my country I was an average student while in US after half a year 80% of class copied my homeworks... Got into all "special classes" "gifted and talented" etc. When I had my second math class, we took a quiz and I was done in 5 mins. The teacher and all students could not believe...

And dont get me started on how my city was destoryed by you f##kers. From 3400 buildings, 2000 was destroyed... And Germany was not the reason... Officially you guys wanted to destroy the railway but not even 5% of the bombs struck the railway... Thousands died, more than during 9.11. Hope ur proud of protecting us

Ummm...so what your really saying is...when the next Usurper rolls through your country and takes what you thought you owned...we should just sit that one out...

Cool...

Why the hell should we spill any blood...or sweat...or tears...from our own...

You’ve obviously got this all figured out...

I really love the not so veiled smug superiority...

We really should leave you elitists to someone else’s devices...because history is rife with rescuing you from yourselves...

And then we get to suffer through your enlightened...evolved...opinions...
