Only funny if you consider money laundering funny.

I take that back, considering that it is money laundering it's genius.

It clearly represents that we've become a Banana Republic.

What makes it not art? Art is defined as such by the creator and then left for us the audience to do what we will with it. Rejection is a perfectly acceptable response to art.

The worth of art is subjective, and thus why it's the perfect vessel for money laundering.

Come on. $120k for this? I think they are laundering money (and/or God knows what else) and slapping us in the face with how ridiculously easy it is. Hidden in plain sight.

How about 120k 2 times and even 150k for a third?

High banana drama at Art Basel Miami: At around 1:45pm Saturday, Georgian-born artist David Datuna plucked Maurizio Cattelan’s art installation from the wall and ate it. The incident occurred two days after the Perrotin art gallery sold two editions of “Comedian,” comprised of a banana duct-taped to a wall, to two French collectors for $120,000 a piece. Several museums are bidding for the third edition for $150,000.

Not everything in the news has to be deadly serious.

But you missed a great line from the carton I think applies to this situation. “Freedom and joy become anarchy and sloth.” With emphasis on sloth.

True, I kinda skipped through it but if you think about it, as it applies to this situation, the line would also lack effort and it wasn't even fun.

Oh boy.

Do you know what I'd buy with 120,000$?

Not a banana.

What about a nanner taped to a wall?

I have a hard time believing this story, but if it's true then I'm at a loss for words. And I hope it wasn't a retart like Alyssa Milano who spends most of her time begging for money for homeless animals that will never see the money.

Rejection is absolutely a legitimate response to art

I was more interested in this idea that we need to define art and make it play by certain rules

It's completely believable when you're made aware of the propensity of art being used for money laundering.

It's simple, you want to bribe a politician, but that's illegal, so can't pay the politician directly for the bribe, but you can buy his son's art project. So the politician does you a favor and you call his son's painting of an apple a #ing genius piece of art, buy it for one hundred thousand dollars, because art is subjective and you can just state that it's what you think it's worth, take it home, and put it on your wall. Bribe paid, deed done, money free in clear, #ty painting of apple on your wall.

This sure turned out a lot different than the students on the college campus that walked outside and immediately got offended and paranoid by the banana peel seen in a tree. They said it was racist.

Students in Tears Over Banana Peel at Ole Miss Campus

An off-campus Greek Life event held by leaders of Ole Miss last weekend was cancelled after many students became troubled by a banana peel, which was hanging from a campus tree. According to The Daily Mississippian, many members of the community were "hurt, frightened, and upset by what occurred."

Ole Miss Greek Life leaders cut their three-day leadership retreat to nearby Camp Hopewell short after black students discovered a banana peel dangling in a tree outside of one of the camp's cabins.

She added that she and her friends were "all just sort of paranoid for a second" after noticing the banana peel, calling its appearance "so strange and surreal."

This is better than a comedy movie that would purposely over dramatize a scene like this...

Ole Miss senior Ryan Swanson, who was also in attendance at the retreat, said he discarded the banana peel in the tree because he could not find a trash receptacle.

Swanson told the newspaper that he "sincerely" apologizes "for the events that took place this past weekend."

"Although unintentional, there is no excuse for the pain that was caused to members of our community," Swanson said.

"I have much to learn and look forward to doing such and encourage all members of our community to do the same," he added.

Yeah boy, you check that white privilege at the door!

$120 Grand right there !

"The fruit and tape in question was the work of Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, and it literally is just a banana duct-taped to a wall, titled “The Comedian.” CBS News reports that there are actually three “editions” of the work of art, two of which have been sold. The third banana is expected to go for an even higher $150,000.

This just shows you the mindset of people who do not earn their wealth, but steal it from others.
