ATS Patron?

I recently read of post by SkepticOverlord, from 2016, that mentioned a possible "ATS Patron" program. I guess a user would be able to pay a monthly fee to remove advertisements and such. Did anything ever come of this? Is there a way to remove the ads? I feel like they overwhelm my experience. I remember what it was like in the olden days, without them. Ads are necessary, I get it. Just wondering if there is an alternative?

I haven't read that post but if it was 'fair dinkum' I'd subscribe to it. In saying that then the administration of ATS would have to ensure that I got my monies worth and not start charging me extra as 'time goes by'.

I love ATS and fully support it but expect same in return.

There was a "Donation" option for a while, but the button has now been removed.
People with more posts see fewer ads, but the exact relation between level of posting and level of ad-freedom seems to fluctuate.

I think not enough people donated.

I know that Wikipedia is having similar issues.

How do you charge someone for something that's user created content. People would just slowly migrate somewhere else. Just having no ads isn't really enough of an incentive for 99% of people unless the ads are truly invasive, or prevent you from viewing content for a length of time.

I post every day throughout the day and night and I get ads all the time.
Some people say they use an ad blocker, but as far as I know, that isn't allowed.

I don't know, then. All your stats figures are higher than mine. All I can say is that (using firefox alone) I don't currently see many ads off the front page. I'm on PC, not phone. Perhaps that also makes a difference.
