I thought this was really quite something when I stumbled across it earlier today.

The town of Sandusky was designed by a Freemason, and the layout of the place is designed to look like the Square & Compasses laying on top of the VSL.

This link has more detailed pics etc.: freemasonry.bcy.ca...

Merkin.

If that aerial map is real, that's pretty cool!

Except, this aerial map from Yahoo!Maps tells a different story:

I did some looking into it and this is what I found.

Here's an aerial map I found:

and here's one where I overlayed some lines. The magenta lines are an exact right angle. The blue is about 78° or 80°:

Looks like this one might just be true! Not so much fun as Washington DC though, is it? I noticed akilles hasn't littered this thread with nonsense. OK here's one for the anti's... What is the symbolic significance of Sandusky, Ohio?

I can't wait!

BTW if there is really a reason other than the guy just did it for love of the fraternity and the country, I would love to hear it.

Good find Merkin!

Actually if you click on that map and zoom into #2 street level and then focus on Washington,Adams, Jefferson, Madison and Monroe Streets you will see it.

Masonry is a huge part of Ohio's history. You could probably find Masonic symbols all over the place if you looked hard enough.

I think that it would point from W to E if it was supposed to be an S&C.

Near the town square (?) there is a beautiful shrub/flower "arrangement" in the form of the device and name of the local Grotto (MOVPER) chapter.

Been to Sandusky a couple of times...

I was linked here from another very interesting thread about a guy that lives in Sandusky.
I suppose if you get in on the incorporation level of a city the city planners could make any design they want.
Take a look at Dubai Port.
Good thread, both of them.

The other thread was closed by the Mason "Mirthful Me" and sent to this

What a load of BS!

No need to be hateful... it happens all the time when there are duplicate topics... the fact that MM is a Mason is entirely irrelevant.

The ATS search function is the friend of Grasshoppers everywhere... they just don't know it sometimes.

Even if some mason designed the layout in the shape of a square and compass....so what? Is it going to channel some dark evil energy into Sandusky which will cause the Armageddon? I don’t think so also it doesn’t look like a real square and compass because not all the lines are connecting. I just think it’s a coincidence and that’s all look allover the world what’s the probability that a "square and compass" will form due to city layouts?

I also checked that out on yahoo maps and in the hybrid version, there are actually two symbols that you can make out.

Of course, I agree with the square and compass, but look again at how Monroe, Huron and Central line up to Washington...

unfinished pyramid.

Looks like they dropped more than one symbol in there.

Of course, I think it is just excellent craftsmanship to layout something so obvious, yet so obscure. I dont really see any sort of Nexus-of-the "whatever" growing out of Sandusky.

It was designed to resemble the Square and Compasses laying on top of the open Bible.

Check out the links both on this thread and the other that was closed... good stuff.

I know that there have been cities planned aroundcertain designs. My old science teacher grew up in a town designed around the FireStone logo. This one has some evidence to it of course, but when it ocmes to other sybols, keep in mind it's very easy to play connect the dots on a city map.

Since the founder went to all the trouble of designing the city with masonic symbols the least they could have done was finish it. Why weren't the points of the compass ( Central and Huron streets ) finished to complete a point?

I brought up the city in google earth and there is not ONE but TWO narly intersections in town where traffic meets from 8 different directions - what a headache that must be during rush hour.
