”They don’t even realize that the name Burton isn’t a company, it’s a person. Obviously, it’s the biggest brand in snowboarding. The man himself is even bigger”

Sorry, on phone so I hope the linky works...

Nah, this is not “Famous People” but a whole industry and lifestyle! Even transcends sports. During his life, he fought for all of our right to snowboard on ski slopes. For that alone I am thankful! I have been able to travel up and down the West Coast going to some great resorts!!

Then there is the board and clothing company. The boards were (still are for each new season’s release) are so cool that you had to lock them up! Boots, jackets, gloves... hell, even the bindings had to be different. Add in a star user like Terje... well, my hat is off for that too.

But the man is another thing. Not just one but two forms of cancer were fought off!! YAY!!

Then the news that the Big C had returned.

Expecting another valiant fight we hear this news today...

Some people are awesome athletes and we wonder at their accomplishments. Others change the world.

Jake Burton Carpenter, I do not ride your boards, wear your clothes, but I appreciate everything that you have done to contribute to a significant part of my life!!

RIP bro.

Lame. I have been snowboarding since the 80’s. Not the best way to go.

Yeah, avalanche at Chamonix would be better...

But that is how it works. Cool that it was peaceful and surrounded by family and friends...

H3ll, I am getting closer to 65 each day myself!

Spent many epic days riding my old Custom 59.

Remember being harassed by ski patrollers all the time as well.

RIP Jake Burton

Thanks bro!

I don’t think that everyone understands the scope or the loss...

I saw this post on the day you posted but didn't have time to reply.

Thanks for posting. It inspired me to buy some snowboarding clothes.

RIP Jake.
