I worked on a case once where the defendant was a "tax protestor". He bought into this idea that he didn't have to pay taxes based on taking like one sentence from a Thomas Jefferson publication, a few lines from the Constitution, a paragraph from Thomas Paine, you get the idea. Showed up for trial - representing himself, of course - with a stack of worn books and pamphlets as his exhibits.

Maybe it's called something like "natural law".

That's what this article does - pieces together fragments of ideas to get to the fragmentary and somewhat illogical conclusion. It confuses history with an evolving profession and present day facts.

Of course he lost the case because it's an idiotic idea.

The statutes are clear, one needs to fulfill the qualifications to be a lawyer in the USA. The words lawyer and attorney are interchangeable.
