Africa can be a Violent continent, some areas have a strong rape culture. Contraceptive are rarely used. My heart goest out to the nuns.

Those threats are part of the reason they are there. They are doing god's work and showing great bravery.
It used to be they stayed cloistered away in the convent never knowing anything of the outside world.
Not now. Now they do missionary work to help communities. They know the risks and choose to do the work regardless of them.

Probably just average, like most folks.
As a Mother-Superior: she has probably spent years chastising younger nuns for their 'curiosities', and telling them not to do things, that she was secretly doing.

She's already proven that she don't walk the walk.

Supposing that there is no mention of rape in the story.
But we have heard before that some priests put sexual pressure on nuns, to get them 'serviced'.
So possibly not rape, but just HPS. ( Horny-Priest-syndrome. )

If it was rape, I doubt they'd want to have it get out and totally negate their "vow of chastity", even though in this case that fact would become obvious in a few months unless they tried to hide it...right? Whatever the reason the outcome was that they came back with little hitchhikers on board, and have a lot to explain! Most especially the Superior.

Att: DictionaryofExcuses...WHY would they just arbitrarily be using birth control? They're Catholic...unless something major has changed I thought they were against being responsible by using birth control. And I wouldn't think they would assume they'd need it just because they were going to Africa. Just seems like a strange kind of question/statement to throw out there....
