Honestly the democrats have done more to make the investigation look illegitimate that anything the president could do.

It doesn't matter if they have been technically legal in everything they have done, the simple fact is most people wont look that deep into it and on the surface it looks shady, so we are at a point where the hardcore blues will believe he is guilty of treason most republicans are probably going show me evidence or piss off, moderates are probably asking why is everything behind closed doors.
