Regardless of perceived or legit security concerns Google has purchased Fitbit for 2.1 billion dollars.

I have been a supporter of Fitibt for a few years now wearing quite a few different models. Additionally I have been invested in the Google ecosystem.

I see possibilities with this purchase but also feel Google may kill the more unique elements of Fitbit assimilating FB into the G world.

At this time though it's a moot point so now users wait and see what happens.

God, I really feel like a dick, being a dick in another one of your threads.

"invested in the google ecosystem.."

Shakes head, "invested" interesting world.

Are cattle "invested" in the meat industry or is it the other way around.

Enjoy your shiny tech devices, google just bought more of your data to sell.

All good.

I make the choice to post and you make the choice to respond. As long we both make those choices of our own free will then that is good

In the end if people are gonna get their feelings hurt when people don't agree with them then they should not be posting on the Internet. Lulz

I'm comfortable with my footprint within the Google ecosystem. Reality of it is if I wanted to go silent electronically then I should have chosen a much different career but I didn't so part of the price I pay is being engaged and involved with tech or more specifically the collaboration and Infosec sides of tech.

That seems reasonable, but I don't think your involvement in your industry necessitates your participation.

Afterall, don't most of the heads of the tech industries limit or outright reject the usage of their own tech for themselves or their families. I'm sure I recall reading at one point that most of those people don't allow their own children to use the very tech they create for mass consumption.

That alone, would speak volumes to anyone paying attention.

Make no mistake though, my comments are meant in no way to be aggressive, just informative.

At the end of the day, like you said, it comes down to personal choice. If someone choses to have everything they say and do be recorded, analysed and exploited. They are free to do so.

... I liked my Fitbit damnit. Just uninstalled the app. Getting tired of this age of information. It will come to an abrupt end soon. AI is the Antichrist, and Google is the vehicle he/it is riding upon.

If you've ever been on the fitbit forums, asking for simple changes in a devices settings, and then seeing the same requests from 2-3 years ago without any response, it makes you wonder.

I have been asking for something as simple as an increase to the Charge 3's display time... someone asked it over a year ago. nothing.

I then read the Email I got from fitbit telling me they were selling out to google. I immediately posted on their forums that THIS is why they are not doing anything.. it's not their problem any more.

Fitbit will be broken down into it's hardware only components, and then dismantled. This is the way with google.

I fkn HATE google with a passion for things like this. They're the worst when it comes to asking for help with their own software/hardware. Nothing. Like talking to a brick wall.

So long fitbit. bleh.

Doesn't mean that google will not be getting all of your previous health data.

Cyberdyne does it again.

And when google go full tesla and buy your car model manufacturers out, we can say "Enjoy your shiny vehicle, google just got all your stuff" too..

This had NOTHING to do with the technology, but google buying out every business they can and absorbing it.

sheesh.

Why the long face...well my fitbit just informed my insurance company I consumed too many calories today, so tomorrow I have to pay more and will contiue to pay more until my calorie intake is within acceptable limits.

Long face? I'm practising my biden sneako sniff manoeuvre.

Well you may laugh, but I have seen black mirror, and this is all going to end badly. What seems jovial today, .. well, 15 years ago.. is now the nightmare we've allowed to exist. heh, your scenario just might not be that far fetched. I mean, who ever envisioned people getting the sack over facebook posts on their own wall, in their own private time, et al.

Either way, I just wanted the bastards to fix some things on my damn fitbit, now google has it, I may as well go fishing with it..

Now I know why fitbit were just ignoring people for so long.

Had a nice slow-dance with that Glenmorangie, did we? LMAO

Enjoy your shiny tech devices, google just bought more of your data to sell.

I'm with you on this concern. Big Tech collects your data. Who do you think they're gonna sell that to? Your Big Insurance company maybe? And what if they find some hereditary disease? Think that might impact your kid's access to affordable Big Medical?

Anyone know what a vial of Insulin is going for these days? Pretty cool how Big Pharma made that stuff perishable, idn't it?

They're using these devices to flesh out the 3D world map via GPS data. Remember Pokemon Go? That was a Trojan horse mapping app disguised as a "game". The technocracy seeks to replace all world governments with one centralized communist regime.

Yes they do sell that Data and it's a practice people find deplorable, I never used to get marketing phone calls until Google obtained my phone number, then I was bombarded with PPI and Accident Insurance scammers calling at all hours asking if I had PPI or "how was I after my accident". The fact I would like to give these people a permanent accident for wasting my time on the phone all five seconds of it is neither here nor there, I just sit back watching all these Republicans and Labor party candidates trying there hardest to keep my country in there Socialist Union with Europe and sit back laughing as I watch them getting caught out time and time again by there own Socialist lies. "Muller exonerated me!" proclaims Trump, Muller then testifies on Captial Hill he's done no such thing. "Leave means Leave!" proclaims Jeremy Corbyn and then promptly says "we're NOT leaving Europe and WE want a better deal." These are Socialist party lier's caught in there own web of lies. There little Bohemian Grove club where all the worlds leaders were having there little Social gathering making sign's of the Bull of Heaven (Apis - Star Sign Taurus) shouting "Hail Bohemia!" (Behemoth) along with "Hail Lucifer!" (Data Encryption Standard) and memorable quotes such as "Let's Orgy!". Retards seriously!

So glad they're getting caught out by it all and there Point of Sale computer system built on POS-IX and UN-IX (universal 9) and the Socialist party (Communist Party) wiretap - which is illegal, but legal issues never stopped these idiots building multi-million dollar companies or engaging in massive fraud and sweet deals!

I look forwards to our as in WE the People's "Communist" Party liberation from all this technology and the proverbial "Revolution!" because if your liberated you have no CAPITAL to speak of do you?

And that little fact on it's own will shut them all up, for good!

Out of curiosity, where do you people think the world is headed with regard to technology and information?

Do you honestly believe that a select few who reject technology will somehow bring about a change in human history such that technology stops and we all go back to a time of ‘less’ tech instead of more?

I’m not saying people blindly accept the words of tech corporation heads regarding their data privacy acts or what they will/will not do with your data, but i see so many people here claiming how nefarious these corporations are and how they stop using certain tech, or in extreme cases, reject it all (yet somehow post on ATS,...O_o ) to prove a point.

this species cannot exist without us advancing technology to point that it frees up the basic essentials for equality of life. I’m not saying Fitbit or Google search or Apple iPads are that answer, but the pursuit of ever advancing technology is.

I just find it funny that so many people here are terrified of Big Data. All you need to do it know how to manage your devices and don’t post endless IG or Twatter feeds about who you are and what you’re doing every 5 minutes. Or post on your Facebook you’re on holiday which your FB homepage shows your house

Don't you know of the original? Ingress? I played that incessantly, but as a single player, it was futile.. no sooner had I captured the green cactus of Perth, than some miscreants were bombarding it with attacks, only for me to lose it. And I dare not traipse back towards my lost conquer, lest little kids with mobiles swamped me with stares and laughter.

That is fun, though, and opt in.

But when google acquires something like this, it's not opt in. Sure fitbits blurb says all your data is safe, trust them.. but at the end of the day, google change their privacy schemes quicker than I change underpants. And I don't even wear underpants, to save time...

they're only there to keep your pants safe from your bum... which google will soon be investigating now.
