On Tuesday, a British court ruled that belief in the Bible was “incompatible with human dignity.”

That statement came in a case involving Dr. David Mackereth, a devout Christian who had worked as an emergency doctor for the National Health Service for 26 years. He said he was fired from his job because he refused to call a biological man a woman. The court’s ruling stated: “Belief in Genesis 1:27, lack of belief in transgenderism and conscientious objection to transgenderism in our judgment are incompatible with human dignity and conflict with the fundamental rights of others, specifically here, transgender individuals.” The court added. “… in so far as those beliefs form part of his wider faith, his wider faith also does not satisfy the requirement of being worthy of respect in a democratic society, not incompatible with human dignity and not in conflict with the fundamental rights of others.”

The Telegraph reported that Mackereth said he was removed from his job with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) in late June 2018 after his boss “interrogated” him about his personal religious convictions. Mackereth told the court in July that his line manager had asked him, “If you have a man six foot tall with a beard who says he wants to be addressed as ‘she’ and ‘Mrs’ would you do that?” Mackereth said that because of his religious beliefs, he could not, and his job was subsequently terminated.

Dr. David Mackereth, a Christian doctor, was given an scenario by his boss of how he would call a patient if the patient was a 6 foot tall MAN with a beard but prefers to be called a woman. Because Dr. Mackereth replied his belief told him that person was a man was enough cause by his boss to fire the seasoned doctor whom had worked for 26 years in Britain's National Health Service.

Dr. Mackereth then tried to take his case to court, and what the court claimed is that the bible, and in specific Genesis 1:27 are incompatible with "human dignity" because it doesn't recognize "transgenderism."

In other words the right of this doctor to have his own beliefs has been taken from him. He was essentially given a choice, either continue to believe in Christianity, or become an atheist and continue to be a doctor.

This is the insanity the progressives/left has been leading us into. No longer is freedom of religion seen as a "right" by the left. Instead progressives/leftists believe that it is their right to shove down everyone's throats the beliefs of the "progressives/left."

Every time I see cases like this one I think I am about to wake up from a nightmare.

No longer are people allow to have their own beliefs. Instead the left keeps shoving down everyone's throat what people must believe.

Even though this happened in Britain, the progressives/left are trying to do the same in other nations including the U.S.

The funny thing is that Governments, the same one's that start wars, make corrupt decisions not in the best interest of their citizens to only benefit themselves, are actually talking about human dignity. Governments have lost all concept of human dignity. Collapse has always been imminent.

I'm not sure a religion has the right to ignore someone else's fundamental rights because of their beliefs. Just consider woman's right's and the acceptance of slavery with regards to these passages:

No. 1:St Paul’s advice about whether women are allowed to teach men in church:

“I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.” (1 Timothy 2:12)

No. 2: In this verse, Samuel, one of the early leaders of Israel, orders genocide against a neighbouring people:

“This is what the Lord Almighty says... ‘Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’” (1 Samuel 15:3)

No. 3: A command of Moses:

“Do not allow a sorceress to live.” (Exodus 22:18)

No. 4: The ending of Psalm 137, a psalm which was made into a disco calypso hit by Boney M, is often omitted from readings in church:

“Happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us – he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.” (Psalm 137:9)

No. 5: Another blood-curdling tale from the Book of Judges, where an Israelite man is trapped in a house by a hostile crowd, and sends out his concubine to placate them:

“So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her and abused her throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go. At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight. When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold. He said to her, ‘Get up; let’s go.’ But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home.” (Judges 19:25-28)

No. 6: St Paul condemns homosexuality in the opening chapter of the Book of Romans:

“In the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.” (Romans 1:27)

No. 7: In this story from the Book of Judges, an Israelite leader, Jephthah, makes a rash vow to God, which has to be carried out:

“And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord, and said, ‘If you will give the Ammonites into my hand, then whoever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return victorious from the Ammonites, shall be the Lord’s, to be offered up by me as a burnt-offering.’ Then Jephthah came to his home at Mizpah; and there was his daughter coming out to meet him with timbrels and with dancing. She was his only child; he had no son or daughter except her. When he saw her, he tore his clothes, and said, ‘Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low; you have become the cause of great trouble to me. For I have opened my mouth to the Lord, and I cannot take back my vow.’” (Judges 11:30-1, 34-5)

No. 8: The Lord is speaking to Abraham in this story where God commands him to sacrifice his son:

‘Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt-offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.’ (Genesis 22:2)

No. 9: “Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:22)

No. 10: “Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.” (1 Peter 2:18)

So it's okay to have slaves, be misogynist, kill innocent children, let your concubine be raped by a mob because your sacred holy bible tells you its okay. I think the essential message of the Bible is having morality is important. But what is moral and what is immoral cannot be taken out of the historical context in which the men who wrote the Bible were living.

That is why Jesus said not to swear by God. The man made an oath to God. He carried out that oath even though it brought him very low, as in humble. The man honored his oath to God, which is what I would call human dignity. A man who honors the words that come out of his mouth. I am not sure if you realize the meaning of this story as you have taken it out of context entirely. But at least you tried.

also: there's no such thing as transgenderism. Sad thing is you don't need religion to know that there are only 2 sexes. Wonder what they'd have done if he wasn't religious, what excuse they would have used in firing him if he just simply said he "No, I will not call that giant man with a beard ma'am or she."

Genders make me confused and angry on the inside. Along with the list of all the ways we're SUPPOSED to address/describe these genders. The only one I understand is Non-Binary which is when one day you feel masculine and the next you feel feminine. I feel manly sometimes. But I still have a vagina so....idk the gender thing is just too much for me

So perhaps he should work as a missionary in a fundamentalist commune or something if his religious beliefs are contrary to his vow as a physican to come to that conclusion.....

I had the honor of working with actual Nursing Nuns (pretty rare then and even rarer now) who were taking care of terminal AIDS patients and the newly infected and the vast majority of which had a lifestyle that was contrary to their values. Yet day in and day out they cared for these patients as if they were the pope. Not the least concerned about the how or why, but rather the care needed to provide a fellow human as they were sick.

Its about the patient not about your values. He should give up the profession IMHO. If he cannot accommodate the patients needs for whatever reason, then its time to go into private practice where he can take care of whoever is willing to pay him.

Yea, it doesn't say anything about other genders but that's because people aren't BORN as anything other than 2 genders. Male or female. That's a fact no one can deny. It doesn't matter whether that's how you identify or not but that it's just the simple truth. You're either born with a penis or a vagina. I don't believe that anywhere in the Bible it says anything along the lines of "God created man and woman. You're not allowed to believe that you were born in the wrong body."

So how does his belief in that specific quote have anything to do with transgenderism?? It doesn't!! He just didn't want to call a big hairy man a woman.

The Court ruling is insane and hypocritical and, in fact, conflicts with the Doctor's fundamental right to be religious. He even said he doesn't agree with transgenderism but he also doesn't "question the sincerity of their convictions."

And as far as I know, his belief and refusal to do something a certain way in a hypothetical situation doesn't go against the AMA Code of Medical Ethics. So why is he being punished here and how did that Court not see how wrong it was for him to be fired??
