Another one where the trailer is so promising but the film just doesn't measure up. All the characters and performances were great, the cinematography was exceptional and a wonderful visual experience but the story arc was flat and in the end, pointless imo.
It seemed all the production value, sfx, great but minimalist performances and build up for 2 hrs....just a bunch of scenes strung together for a big letdown.

The film industry isn't about good stories anymore.

It's a tech race and it's going to drive itself right into the ground.

It was nice while it lasted.

I'd have been wary of Ad Astra even with the trailers. They look interesting, but it has been bothering me that you can really get much of a sense of what the movie is about from them -- just a man going into space to do exciting things and the fate of the world and humanity rests on whatever the outcome is ... but you don't really know exactly why.

Looking at rotten tomatoes, it looks like this was a dud for a major release.

45% rotten based on real life people reviews.

The access media shill rating is meaningless these days, because they are just a bunch of paid for drones of the movie industry.

Man, it's sad. I used to watch a lot of new films. I remember 10 or 15 years ago just about half of what I "wanted" to see was good. These days, it's 1 in 100. If not less.

Thank god hollywood gets all that influx of chinese money to keep itself going.

Trouble is it's a true story. Maybe that's why they let a B movie go through.....so whoever they are can put it in plain sight

Short while back they.....they released a shot from the big telescopes in orbit catching an explosion the size of a galaxy

They...,they claimed they aimed there by accident and got lucky.....

It was far larger than a supernova......and it was a secret weapon.

The conspiracy takes over.....but gets into the Biblical war called the devils bargain.....I'll stop there huh!

It was friggin nasa.....it was not lucky.....not a lucky shot from Hubble....it was big ....bubba

I agree with you.
If it isn't an original movie full of every cliche the screenwriter can fit in, it's a reboot of a classic that sucks ass..
"I hear princess bride may be in the works" just no...

Throw in sequels that do nothing but milk an established franchice for every nostalgic dine they can...
"Terminator"
'"Predator"

Then we get agenda films cuz everyone knows we need a message in our movies..

I swear Hollywood has forgotten how to make good movies.

Princess bride remake????

God no.....just no.... and Carey was a flash in the pan but even HE can't be replaced.

Hollywood is so bankrupt it's F'in sad. That's coming from a longtime movie buff. They need to read the writing on the wall an purge out a decade of complacency. Otherwise they are done.

ETA: They are just driving any franchise around into the ground. As you mentioned, all the greats are just caricatures of something good. I LOVE all the early films, all the reboots and remakes are just horrible. It's honestly so pathetic and shallow at this point I'm surprised they would spend even 50K on such things, let alone millions.

Ohh I don't doubt it.

No shortage of stupidity in the film industry these days, in fact, if anything it's in abundance.

ETA: I hope if they do it, they keep the budget tight. So maybe after the worldwide box office sales come in, the initial disc/digital sales come in, they may make a buck 3 or 4 years out.

Hollywood has its "Re/make/boot" book open
Take a look at this list..

www.imdb.com...

Also i have seen better films in the 70s/80s than 95% of the horse lumps getting pumped out these days.

You should watch Outland

As a "movie buff", i've spent more time watching things I've missed in the 80's then I have watching the latest "shlock" coming out of hollywood.

Lots of good stuff back then.

Hollywood is dead, those in it now are just humanoid husks of a dead era. May they rot, and burn, in peace.....

I agree, but I think that was the point..

It screamed low budget artsy, fartsy to me.. and there was nothing unique or overly interesting.... and Pitts character by design was totally devoid of emotion..

And 90% of the movie is right shots of Pitt showing almost no emotion lol..

The moral of the story was pretty good, and summed up in one of the final lines between Pitt and Jones..

“You did complete your mission dad.. you found out.. it just turns out we are all we have got.”

I bet this cost almost nothing relatively of course..all the long tight shots, probably only 20 cast members total.. if that many..

At least it's got adults in. The shi## they been churning out with kids as the heroes is enough to make me sick.
