Netflix is importing some really cool science fiction content. The Russian show "Better Than Us" was just awesome. Now I've watched my first Chinese science fiction movie:

Trailer:

If you don't get hung up on the Chinese sub-titles the story is a really sappy military love story with several teary eyed die for your country scenes. Right wing military types will love this movie if they can get past the part these are not American soldiers.

The science fiction part is great. Lots of really cool technology.

I like the way scenes are filmed. It's almost like a military propaganda movie. At the end you will really want to fight for your team and kill extraterrestrials. The Chinese propaganda skills are very strong.

And another item of note; why is it that the female protagonists aspire to look almost "western like" hmmm....

Haha. Trailer shows how the film ends? That’s a new idea!

Only way to watch is through Netflix?
I won't patronize them, which is really unfortunate if that's the only venue for this movie. It looks great!

There are a couple "watch it for free" links that come up when searched, along with a warning that it's probably a site that will attack your computer, etc. LOL! Yeah, I'll pass on that option as well.

Even if I can't watch it, thanks for bringing it up. I'm always on the lookout for good movies in a couple genres, scifi and doomsday being two of them.

The Simpsons did a great spoof on alien invasion ala 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers'. No one noticed the invasion. They were all too busy looking at their smart phones.

LOVED 'Better Than Us'...very surprised how well done it was and how easy it was to follow.
Dubbing was well done.

Will look into 'Shanghai Fortress'.

The trailer looks like a mashup of other movies..

Take,,,
Independence Day and Skyline..
mix thoroughly in a Chinese takeout box...

Sprinkle with some edge of tomorrow and wrath of Kahn,"see that dying guy pulling the lever?"

Serve with a side of space battleship Yamato..

There is a different kind of science fiction movie from china called "The Wandering Earth" that also came out this year. The idea of the movie is bonkers, but decent Kino.

Wish someone would make a version of "Never ending Sacrifice" movie from Deep space 9.

I can't read movies
you lose some of the acting reading it, or miss something spoken watching it.

Been a few apparently good ones I've passed on due to that. I did, once, long ago, try to learn Cantonese... shame it never lasted. I could watch some different movies then.

Same here. I want to watch my movies, not read them. Too bad because it looks like something I would love to see.
