I know that, obviously. That is all well and good. I am just saying that Canada needs to go full circle and be a Republic in name and form.

What difference will being called a "Republic" make to a country that is already an independent Nation , seems like a case of change for the sake of change to me.

Remove your French element in polls and a good majority of Canadians will want to remain shackled to the Queen

Dismantle the maple crown.

I would prefer Geddy Lee to be on the $20.

And the national anthem should be "north west passage" by Stan Rogers.

I'm going to say it... Rush. Is. The. Worst.

A little levity never hurt anybody, but the comic does remind us how the monarchy came to be and how it has continued for so long.

It took me a long time to get Rush. But they are okay for me at this point. Here's another product of Canada:

This song reminds me of my first wife.

Let me guess.

You reside in either Quebec or New Brunswick .

What would the benefit be?

The redundancy would be addressed and we would not have to foot the bill for all their visits here. Supposedly, the Queen visits Canada way to much.

With Canada as an independent republic, Quebec would be its own country before the ink on the signatures were dry. New Brunswick would take another month or two (or five years) just to be sure they would be safe first.

Quebec tried separating from the rest of Canada which didn't work mainly because they felt they could siphon huge amounts of cash from Canadian tax payers after the done deed. People don't want to live that way, paying for the french knowing that if they separated from Canada, would demand recompense from the tax payer. I don't see that taking place here anytime soon because of that. BC would also separate if the french did as would Alberta. But all three could live well as they have the resources to do so.

Chill Already. Just my opinion and you flip turds about it. Want me to agree if you simmer?

I am calm. Apologies if my post came across as irate.

The point is that there are many Republican nations who are Republics in name and form. Canada needs to go the full circle and fully complete the legal process and be a Republic in form and name. It is 2019 CE after all...

Canada is fine the way it is.
Seems to me you suffer from minority chip on the shoulder syndrome, and probably a recent immigrant.

If you don't like Canada as is, LEAVE !!
STAT!

O good. They can take Trudeau with them.

I don't see the benefit in totally cutting ties, but the "if you don't like it, leave" attitude is so dangerous and against what Canada stands for. This guy has every right to peacefully say..."hey...why is this lady on our money?" "Immigrant" or not. One of the best things about Canada is that most of us realize that we're all pretty close to being immigrants anyways and dont hold pretentious ideas about who is welcome and who isn't.

Yeah, that's the ticket..ditch the British Pound for a Canadian Dollar. That'll fix the Queen's little golden wagon.

Oh, wait...

Replace it with what actually
A US model of government? Invite Hilary to be president?
Chinese model
Russian model.
EU model
South African model

Always staggered by the absolute mindlessness of these propositions
What, give the government the powers to implement their own system?

What is on offer, just a pie in the sky question based on nothing but hate for the monarchy I guess. And really, as an Aussie I couldn’t care less about the monarchy, our system, Canada’s system, Britain’s system works pretty good, it’s not broken.
Probably better than the US in my opinion
Nothing would make me want to live in the US, well not much anyway

Replace the monarchy with what, a Trump, a Clinton, a flawed system based on suppositions of not a monarchy

Such a silly question with nothing to offer

Being tied to the Crown is part of Canada's identity. I say keep it. You're more than maple syrup. Many parts of Canada even keep the architecture of an old English village which is great since going over the border from the USA, it's mostly hard to tell you're in another country.

I wont disagree with that, but Geddy has done for Canada than the queen, he's one of our main exports!
