It's the fact that the three biggest nuclear powers believe that we can have achievable victories in limited nuclear exchanges....

Got to say I only see one of the 'three biggest nuclear powers' engaging in any sort of rhetoric about using tactical nuclear weapons, gaining an 'achievable victory' and/or surviving such.....and that isn't the USA or China.

The Doomsday Clock is currently 90 seconds to midnight - at midnight we would have made the world inhabitable. Not sure about that but I do have to say that with all the posturing and variables today compared to The Cold War - yes, I'm old enough to remember it - who knows?

Duck and cover and you'll be fine.

I'm not that far from Portsmouth which is probably a target, how about you?

Looked at a few maps of likely UK targets:

metro.co.uk...

Oh. Crap. Tidworth and Salisbury. 😕. Bummer.

I never paid much attention to those.
Cheltenham, home to GCHQ is rarely on them, Hereford, home to 22 reg also absent.

link to 30minute QED film

I found the above video gave a much better idea than most of the more modern target stories in the metro and stuff.

The main motorway and railway line to the North East run right through where I live.
The 3rd largest seaport in the UK and the 10th largest in Europe is 22 miles to the east.
16 miles to the east of me is one of the largest concentrations of petrochemicals, commodity chemicals, fertilizers and polymers manufacturing in Europe.
27 miles north east from me is a nuclear power station.
16 miles to the south of me is the largest British Army Garrison in the world.

Its pretty much safe to say I'd go up in a flash....which is preferable to the alternative if its an all out nuclear exchange.

Someone posted a link to a simulator a few years ago on which you could see the effects of a nuclear attack close near where you live and the world in general, I wish I could find it.

No use worrying mate, if it happens it happens....# all the likes of me and you can do about it.

If it's any consolation, if I lived in Saratov, with it's strategic bomber base, it would be squeaky bum time! 😉

I looked at that Metro article you linked to; looks like Putin only has it in for you Southerner's....I may actually be ok. 🤣

Yeah, I think Saratov would be a primary target for any retaliatory strikes.....Can't Cheat Karma.

It is pretty grim.

One of the things that struck me though is how, these days, nukes are more accurate and thus smaller...
It wasn't that long ago that the US had Titan II's with 9 Megaton warheads.
Now those give me chills, its got to be said.
