They're gonna get your car, Bro. As soon as the self-driving car concept is accepted by 15% of the population, they'll tax your privately owned vehicle out of existence. They'll raise the price of gas at any gas station you have access to (the self driving cars will drive themselves to the government controlled filling station), so you won't be able to use it.

They're not gonna take your guns. They're gonna make the ammunition for them very scarce. That'll make guns obsolete, just like taking away your access to affordable gas.

Mole People ... LOL. I'm gonna remember that.

Buses, what about automated ubers? You will not have to stress out about car loan, insurance and maintenance. Have a miles plan on a monthly bases and go where you need to go locally or regionally.

Works in the city, not rural regions where the next shop is 20km away and the bus visits two times a day. There will be no automatic uber car who drives out here, just so maybe one will take a ride. Or wait two hours for that car to arrive. Just not doable as a single mother, I need my car to get to work and buy staples or I would have to move into the city.

That would mean I would have to sell everything I have here and enslave myself to some landlord, sitting in the city like chickens in a bad chicken farm.

No, thank you.

Gallop is right

the leftist elite wants us all to live in concrete box apartments with centrally controlled thermostats; take the state-run bus or train to work; eat the state-approved organic mush; watch state-approved entertainment.

meanwhile the Clintons and Obamas and Kennedys will continue to have private planes and ranches and beach estates etc etc.

remember The Time Machine? morlocks and eloi. we re pre-morlocks. I fear the day will come, not when we refuse to fight for our freedoms, but when we voluntarily give up our freedom for state security.

Sounds like everything your government wants for you and your kids.

As a bonus, you can get a male robot for your home, so you won't exactly have to be 'single' anymore.

Orwell didn't think everything all the way through, did he?

We have those now. They are called taxis.
Or you could phone for a ride with Uber.

Closest town to me is a five minute drive or about a 25 minute walk. It has two gas stations, a Dollar General, a bank (not my bank), a post office and a small library that is not part of rest of the library system. Closest obligatory Walmart is a 10-12 minute drive. I can’t even have a pizza delivered here. There is a bus that is going to come and pick me up when I want it? And it will produce less pollution than my car?

Orwell "predicted" (set in motion) many things, but I think he did not expect that kind of plot twist / angle, haha.

No, because you have the bus driver so if the bus is used by at least someone, you have two people in a vehicle and now it is less polluting than the bus driver driving somewhere else to work and you using your car.

This. This is the "logic" we will face soon. Just wait.

9.1 million square kilometers in the US, it would not work.

That's ignoring the fact that the car culture is ingrained in us.

That sums it up perfectly where we could be heading. Yes, you'll be "protected" and well taken care of in the block. " Just give up that pesky Freedom thing and the government will make everything all better. Just don't disagree with what we tell you, wrong thinking will be adjusted."

Thats the thing, though. The people pushing for all this crap dont want you living in the countryside. They want to force you into the cities, living in 400 square foot cracker box apartment, in exchange for empty promises of free everything, but in reality, with you completely dependent and easily controlled.

No government is going to be taking away cars there’s far to much money to be lost it would crash the economy, raising taxes, fuel prices and insurance yes, that will happen.

Nothing new under the sun. The socialist left continues to push their totalitarian believes. Fear of climate change is just their latest instrument, if not that it would be something else. The problem is, it's a rather effective instrument, at least comparable to what the left tried in the past.
At least in certain parts of Europe - Germany as others already wrote - they do control the public discourse and they'll also have success in curtailing individual freedoms.

There is an underlying issue here to explain why this saving the climate delusion is catching on in Germany. Parts of the populace simply can't cope with true individual freedom.
Subconsciously they actually desire to be controlled by society and the state. They crave for more and more laws and prohibitions; they are desperate to subjugate themselves to - in their minds - save the world and humankind.
Add to that a holier than thou complex, an inflated do good attitude and the guilty conscience about everything that’s wrong in the world and you've basically figured out why Germany has yet again gone crazy.

Germany has gone through three authoritarian regimes in the 20th century - a military dictatorship during the first world war, national socialism which brought upon the second and international socialism in East Germany which lasted until 1990.
There is a very good chance they'll try a new one in the 21st century - ecofasicm. But fear not, after that one they won’t be able to recover anymore.

Be careful, you observations might be a bit off. Remember, often it is a small group of people who make a fuss and noise.

Also "they". Please differ between the government and the people. Yes there are those people who want to be "followers". But then, we would not be such a strong nation with so many self made companies, if we were all like you described.

It very depends on where you live, though. South, North, East, West.

The south for example is very traditional and has innovative industry. We were (ancestors in this region) all very poor here for a long time, this is when people started to be smart and inventive. The "we make that even better, because we can -thought" is very dominant here in the south.

Yes I see what you mean but please do not act like we are all brain-dead devout bucklings.

I know it resonates with the ATS mind "Europe = socialist = bad". It would be the same, if I would say all Americans are fat and dumb and most have never seen anything else then their country.

That is rude and also not true.

Doing a forced government confiscation of personal transportation vehicles would cause a lot of deaths and start a whole new industry in grave yards and cemeteries. It would be an ugly stain.

Those types of things are personal property and defending your property with FORCE if you are being attacked or robbed of your property is guaranteed under the constitution.

There is no government-run mass transit system complex enough in the US to adequately get everyone everywhere they would need to go in anything like a timely and efficient manner. It's just not possible.
