Some things are decided by referendum in the us

The U.K. government decided it would be perfectly acceptable to allow a democratic vote on whether to stay in the eu, because they assumed remain would win

Any government that promises a democratic vote o something, then refuses to honor that vote because they didn’t like the results is authoritarian and un democratic

Hear, hear!

These MPs though are only representing their constituents and the members of their party.

Of their 18 seats, 10 of the constituencies had a remain majority and 8 a Leave majority in the People's Vote of 2016, so, no, they are not representing their constituents. They are representing the wishes of 10 of 18 constituencies.

Leave / remain is not really a party issue - or shouldn't be. Every party has a mix of constituencies that voted for remain and leave.

What should be happeing is very party working together to leave the EU, accepting the nationwide referendum result.

Something like that would certainly put an end to all the sillies who rattle on about the EU ruling Britain, which was not the case anyway...all member countries have to agree with anything Brussels puts out before it can come become a ruling, law, policy....whatever.

Surely.......

Because the EU has a system ....anyone disagreeing with what the EU wants

has to keep on voting till they come up with the answer the EU wants!!

... membership to vote for a policy to scrap Brexit by revoking Article 50.

Well, it's obvious what the Liberal Democratic membership will say. They'll say "scrap Article 50". Lib Dems have always been pro-EU.

What the Lib Dems don't tell you is that in the EU Parliament they are affiliated with the Renew Group, who are devoted to a federal Europe with a subservient nation state.

Lol!! Where does the electorate majority come into the Lib/Dems plans?

or indeed Labour plans.......

Both want to implement *remain* one way or another and the majority of

the people want to leave.

Who is working for the *people*?

The symbolic gesture committing the the Liberals to revoking Article 50 should they be in a position to form a majority government has been passed at their party conference in Bournemouth.

Members voted for the new policy at their party conference in Bournemouth by an overwhelming majority.

Previously, the party has backed another referendum or "People's Vote", saying they would campaign to Remain.

After the vote, their leader Jo Swinson, said: "We will do all we can to fight for our place in Europe, and to stop Brexit altogether."

The commitment only comes into force if the party wins the election as a majority government.

Ms Swinson also confirmed that before an election is called, the Lib Dems would continue to work with other opposition parties to campaign for a further referendum, and to prevent a "dangerous" no-deal Brexit.
www.bbc.co.uk...

The Lib Dems' motion said that if the party became the government at the next general election, it would revoke Article 50 - the law that ensures the UK leaves the EU. Earlier, Ms Swinson told the BBC's Andrew Marr show: "If people put [the Lib Dems] into government... the stop Brexit party, then stopping Brexit is exactly what people will get.
"Everybody can see we are stuck, that Brexit is in a mess. There needs to be a way out of that."

Surely if they were truly a democratic party the Liberal democrats would have put such on important policy question to the vote among their whole membership not just those who could get to Bournemouth for the party conference.

While they would revoke article 50 in the case off winning a majority at Westminster, they would oppose even a referendum on Scottish independence if pro Indy parties won a majority in Hollyrood.

Seems a tad inconsistent.

More than half her party were voted into Westminster under 'different' parties

What gives Jo Swinson the Idea that the electorate would vote them in as a

Lib/Dem in any election?

Jo Swinson P.M. ?

Delusional comes to mind.
