In all honesty?

It would be "clique-ish" in nature.

It would exclude those who can't or won't pay.

That's just my take based on similar discussions with mods/owners in the past.

Honestly I find the moderation around here pretty lax. Seems to be on a mod by mod basis. Most of the time I see their reasoning, sometimes the moderation is downright funny(no disrespect, I just get a chuckle).

For example, when taking part in a thread that turns into a dumpster fire(through my own contribution), I've seen the aftermath be pretty funny.

The thread will end up closed, I'll look in my message box and see several posts of mine removed and also a few "applause" messages....ALL FOR THE SAME THREAD(sometimes the same mod). That's some funny crap right there. I don't mind it, at this point it's like putting out the occasional apartment fire in a highrise engulfed in flames.

I never "pay" I only "hire temporarily" for services needed.

Be honest with yourself. You know you already say everything you want to say to those people who make you mad.

As most above have proved, if you try to make a more "private" club, it just gets sexual.

I just don't see how paying something would go anywhere. There is already "clubs" here, based mostly along political lines as well as "time of signup". There is plenty of back and forth between those groups and frankly most of it is good natured, which is why I feel the mods are pretty lax. It seems the only time they really do step in is when it may seem that the "tone" has shifted and is no longer a playful or good natured jest and could be seen as actual negativity or aggression.

With that in mind, I don't see why they would want to collect money in order for that line to be crossed by members, it just wouldn't have any real benefit for the members or the site.

So I was just thinking, basically what the OP is proposing(in my interpretation) is more of a "Chan" atmosphere for ATS.

Paid or otherwise, that might not be a bad thing. I'm assuming most of the moderation and attempts to keep discussions out of a certain "category" is to keep the advertising bots from dumping this site into obscurity and rendering it "unadvertisable".

While a "chan" for current members might be fun, in the end it would ultimately turn into a typical dumpster that is all chans, just with ATS attached to it.

I really don't think the site owners are all that involved enough to try and evolve or appease a dwindling user base(on here and on "forums" in general).

For clarification, I'm not saying that the current ATS should convert to a chan.

But a chan for members of a certain post/member duration would be fun, and let the chips fly as the OP wishes.

Also could substitute the chan for a "chat" feature, once again, open only to "veteran" members. The reasoning would be not for a clique ish nature, but just to keep random bots/trolls from running it into the ground.

I think (now this is my opinion, not the opinion of the owners or mods) that they really try to avoid a clannish nature. They do try to be equal in everything. Non-partisan so-to-speak.

This would be exclusionary.

I'd agree that they probably wouldn't want something so exclusionary. Which is why I'm actually liking my idea/interpretation of a chan/chat for long term members. Not to be exclusive, but just as an added side distraction for non critical site/vent stuff.

I know that U2U's are pretty open, but honestly they seem to be underused, so the concept of an open chat where other members can jump into the madness would seem pretty fun and might actually get some dialog going.

Especially as the hours tick by and the "liquids" start flowing.
