They are as mortal as we are but they like the exclusivity that comes with knowledge!!!
They very well know that if they don't destroy everything now we will all move on to the next lesson, and they stay behind. It's one hell of a psyOP going on making us afraid of whats to come so we will accept their story, and the mark of the beast is a big part of it. Don't be afraid ever.
