Panic in Times Square after motorcycle backfire mistaken for gunshots

Mass panic as people heard a backfire from a motorcycle and thought GUNFIRE !!!!

Happened Tuesday night while Times Square was crowded with people.

People scrambled into restaurants and theatres to get away from what some thought was sure chaos.

Some injuries, no apparent deaths.

Everybodys on edge. Can't figure it out 😎

Chaos erupted in Times Square on Tuesday night as people stormed out of the area when a backfiring motorcycle was mistaken for gunshots.

The false alarm took place around 10 p.m. as a loud boom sent tourists darting into restaurants and theaters, disrupting a performance of “To Kill a Mockingbird” at the Shubert Theatre on 44th Street near 7th Avenue.

“Stopped our show tonight due to a motorcycle backfire that was mistaken for a bomb or shooting,” tweeted cast member Gideon Glick.

“Screaming civilians tried to storm our theater for safety… This is the world we live in. This cannot be our world.”

Saw that, it's actually kind of sad.

Sad from so many angles.

People get so whipped up in the narrative and are so fearful, I guess that's a good thing though, if you seek to control them(their minds).

My initial thought was, "It's a bunch of liberals in New York. Basically a gun-free metropolis. Be afraid. Be very afraid. And be afraid all the time."

It's not so much a street car anymore, but when it was, I did scare the absolute bejezus out of a few people. I can understand why some people who aren't familiar with something like this might interpret it as gunfire, especially if they're unfamiliar with the sounds of actual gunfire.

Yes, there are cars and motorcycles everywhere that backfire daily.
That is the world we live in.

What ever happened to "Home of the Brave"?
This was pathetic.

I hear weapons fire every other month in the southeast side of my city all the time.
