Multiple fatalities reported in shooting at Walmart in El Paso

Another day, another mass shooting in America. It was Texas too. Where were the good-guys with guns? Where was the background check?

I guess it doesn't matter to those that've died. I guess, in America, it doesn't matter at all.

Politicizing another tragedy much?

American Socialist says it all. America cannot handle socialism and it's a seriously bad idea to disarm your citizens.

Sad day for all. Save the gun debates please.

Other thread here.

I don't have the 'other current events' forum in my favorites and considered this to be 'breaking news' so I posted this here.

You're right. We should give the grieving time to grieve. Then we can discuss the...oh...just when we were going to discuss the problem another mass shooting happens. Then we have to hold off on the discussion again...because 'grieving families'.

I guess the solution is just going to have to be 'thoughts and prayers' and 'likes' on Facebook. People are just going to die and we have to accept that.

So what is your solution?

To my knowledge, you're allowed to have multiple threads as long as they're not in the same forum, so your thread is fine. I usually look in the Recent threads at the top of the page to see if something has been posted yet.

I think this thread conforms with T&CS.

Why is it people only report on certain mass shootings? Why is it that no one makes threads about 90% of the mass shootings in America? What about the other 247 "mass murders" (literally means 4 or more people dead) of 2019? Did that not fit the gun control/political narrative? What do you think would be solved by taking away the legal right to own a firearm? Do you think that criminals will magically not have guns or use them if they were banned?

Seems like it’s never the right time for a gun debate. When is the right time?

Countries without such free access to weapons do not suffer these atrocities on such a regular basis. If weapons are hard to get then they won’t be used. But I accept such rational thinking is hard in the USA. Indeed it is pointless. So this will just keep happening. If it’s the price you pay for gun ownership you’ll pay it. Seems odd to me, but it’s your country, your laws and if you guys are happy with it, so be it.

Yeah, that's not true. If you plot gun violence rates on a chart with gun ownership rates by country, there is no correlation. There's countries with high gun availability that do not have this problem, and countries like ours with high gun availability that do. On the other hand, there are countries with low gun availability that have very little gun violence and also countries with low gun availability that have tons of gun violence.

If the availability of guns was the primary factor, that would not be the case. Gun availability is not the cause. That's a statistical fact.

I am with you. See my country. Relative strict gun control. Yet you still get chopped in half with a sword by a criminal (also, immigrant / war refugee)

It is not to see you admit the Police will never be the solution, and that if we had armed good guys this POS would have been stopped.

I agree.
