Barack Obama shares op-ed criticizing President Trump's poisoning of our democracy.'

Former United States President Barack Obama, who does not often comment on current politics, seemed to endorse on Saturday (July 27) an op-ed written by 148 African Americans who served in his administration that called out President Donald Trump for recent comments degrading four congresswomen of colour.

Under the headline, "We are African Americans, we are patriots, and we refuse to sit idly by", the former Obama administration officials vowed to stand up against the "racism, sexism, homophobia and xenophobia... wielded by the president and any elected official complicit in the poisoning of our democracy".

"There is truly nothing more un-American than calling on fellow citizens to leave our country - by citing their immigrant roots, or ancestry, or their unwillingness to sit in quiet obedience while democracy is being undermined," they wrote.

I was a moderate liberal until 2.5 years ago when I witnessed the left going ape # over their failed electoral choice. Now it's just getting ugly.

Are Obama and his wife MICHELLE for real??? I can't believe anyone would fall for their lies and hypocracies; to think the President of the USofA would allow Democracy to be undermined. I actually think Donald Trump is saving the world by speaking out like he does.

What do you think of all this? Obama is the Master of Shenanigans, that's what I think.

He doesn't comment on 'politics' often? More so than any other president out of office......And I've never understood this whole 'African America' thing.....Just doesn't make since, none of the rest of us immediately identify something prior to 'American'.....but maybe that is just me.

I normally avoid these topics but I do have something to point out - Trump criticizes all of these democrats all the time, Pelosi especially.

But the media just grabs 4 of them specifically and says "the 4 of color" and makes it like he goes easy on the white Democrats and focuses all his critiques on these 4 particular ones "cuz of race".

Hopefully everyone sees through this obvious media ploy.

I am not in any way a fan of Trump I just dislike the media's lies even more.

Not that I'm being an "apologist" for the current President, President Trump, but his previous comment along the lines of "if you don't like America then leave" was basically an old dude speaking a bit out of turn. Sure, he's the President but many folks would say something similar.

In France, for instance, some folks might complain about delayed train services or something and say "how awful France is" and the response of some old French geezer would be "well if you don't like it here, then leave"...

I'm sure the President wasn't being literal - after all most of the folks to whom his comment was directed at were - on the whole - born in the USA.

EDIT: I also don't think that the current President is "racist" in the literal sense of the word and comparing President Trump to Adolf Hitler is very, very stupid and ignorant.

Funny how Donald Trump was never considered a "racist" until he became President. Americans like Immigrants that come in the LEGAL way. Are we a nation of laws or not. Democrats don't want improve our border wall or get rid of loopholes in our Immigration laws that allow fake Asylum seekers to say in US, until Asylum claim makes it through the court system.

Over 40 years now Congress has kicked the immigration can (problem) down the road. It's time for the government to address this problem.

Yeah and hes THE ONLY president in the last 30 years to actually MEET and SIT DOWN with the leaders in Chicago on how to alleviate the issue there with minority crime areas......
