What stupid comments. Ghostbusters on the whole had no gender reliance for any of the main characters (yes, there was a romantic subplot, but that could have easily accommodated), more it may have been not great because the writing wasn't as good and perhaps the casting could have been better, but to say it 'sucked' because the main roles were played by women in the reboot says more about you than it does the film.

For a woman to play Rambo would be problematic if there weren't any American servicewomen who were taken prisoner in the Vietnam conflict for a start, then you would have to find one who could play it as equally badly, and also expect people 30 years later to believe what became a nonsensical storyline who liked the original when they were 11 and have just never matured, but they are all different points aren't they.

Yes, that's one of the reasons why Ghostbusters failed.

They rebooted the original which is a classic as it is and doesn't need remaking.

They should have used it as a platform to launch the new one. They still could have had their all female cast, but it could have and should have been its own thing, not a weak effort to pave over what existed before. Instead, it should have been a new entry in the existing canon. It would have had a much better chance of success then although the weak writing would still likely have doomed it.

Good points. I could say the same about the magnificent seven, which many believe is inferior to the seven samurai, but would have stood as a classic in its own right if it hadn't shadowed the samurai film so closely.
