"The UK government did not take its "eye off the ball" over the seizure of a UK-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf on Friday, the chancellor told the BBC.

Philip Hammond said the UK has been working closely with US and European partners in response to Iran's actions.

But ex-Tory party leader Iain Duncan Smith said the Stena Impero's capture was a "major failure" for the UK.

Theresa May is to chair a meeting of the emergency response committee Cobra on Monday to discuss the issue.

Iran's foreign minister has said that only "prudence and foresight" would reduce tensions between Iran and Britain."

Meanwhile, more BS & propaganda from the Iranians:-

Iranian law makers have filed a motion to impose a toll on ships passing the straight of Hormuz

In a statement signed on Sunday, 160 Iranian lawmakers cast support to IRGC’s move and appreciated the elite force for impounding the violating vessel, urging the government to approve a motion to charge a toll to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps impounded the British tanker, Stena Impero, on Friday while it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz en route to Saudi Arabia. It was seized "for failing to respect international maritime rules.”

The oil tanker was then transferred to the coast to undergo the required legal proceedings

Thats a game of chicken nobody wants.Uk will decide in a few hours what to do

"The British government is expected to announce its next steps in a speech to parliament on Monday. But experts on the region say there are few obvious steps London can take at a time when the United States has already imposed the maximum possible economic sanctions, banning all Iranian oil exports worldwide.

“We rant and rave and we shout at the ambassador and we hope it all goes away,” said Tim Ripley, a British defense expert who writes about the Gulf for Jane’s Defence Weekly.

“I don’t see at this point in time us being able to offer a concession that can resolve the crisis. Providing security and escort for future ships is a different matter.” "

The British once invaded/colonized half of the planet, to trade spices.

Spices they still refuse to use, in British cuisine.

What do you think will happen, when a commodity they actually USE, comes under assault?

The best Iran can hope for now, is a skinny guy with glasses that refuses to eat...

Right now, the UK is looking a bit WEAK on the world stage, no offense.

Not too mention leaked audio between a British officer and the Iranians, pretty much with the brit saying, "You had better not go over there!" And the ship pretty much went over there because the Iranians walked right up and took it.

So much for, "Iron Overhead", eh?

Meanwhile, the US shoots down an Iranian drone that got too close to Red Hot American Arsenal and got Vaporized, sending a clear message to Iran and the world.

That's exactly what we are doing. The British need to take some form of action, to save face, and show they are a world power, and then we will jump in, as needed. President needs US support right now. He is waiting on us. When Iran makes a serious misstep, President Trump will make an overwhelming example of Iran,

Its coming soon.

I can't believe Iran would seize any tankers without being provoked.

Because they will get destroyed by superior US military chopping at the bit. It would be suicide to do what they did for no reason.

Clearly, Iran is trying to provoke. There is not much the UK can do, or would have done. The ship was siezed outside of Iranian waters. Even had there been a Royal Navy ship sitting close by I very much doubt they would have shot down a helicopter. Thre's a difference between a helicopter and an unmanned drone.

Iran are playing in a game which they cannot win.

Why this is a problem for Britain is beyond me.

The ship is Swedish owned.

The crew are Indian nationals.

The only connection with Britain is the ship was registered in London.
