I don't know about NAS , I have external storage enclosures in a RAID 5 connected to a RAID adapter
8 drives in each
NAS is much slower as it stands for Network Attached Storage .
A Fiber SAN is faster.

I referenced nas as a low level alternative to single drive storage on a single system.

I have 2 external storage units running raid 6........

Yes! That laptop base is sooooo nice! Puts the laptop at a slight slope. Has a nice cooling fan. When he had the old laptop, I think it helped extend its life!
I think it really helps cool it.
And keeps the human lap cool...or whatever surface it sits on.
Pretty cheap on Amazon....

Yes. It has system restore
"Recovery" and "Restore" are absolutely the very last option one should take

Windows updates are a scam, there not actually updating anything all they're doing is downloading your porn file. The longer it takes the more porn you have.

This is an update to a new version of Win10!!

All the more reason to avoid it till the new bugs are worked out. No one EVER used to install a major update 0 day. We'd wait 6 months at the minimum to ensure they were safe to install.

My point was, now there is no option, and not only do the problems of their severe updates inevitably come along, most people like you are lost as to why it's taking forever.

And each one of these updates does take forever. Be thankful that at least they can be resumed (mostly) and not leave you with an unworkable station, should you power it off to rid the annoyance.

as has been noted, letting it do it's thing is the only way forward. One day you're doing you, the next they're doing you. no postpone.

Yes. who uses that though? I just take images of my machine till it's had one too many subversive things installed, the majority of my programs are installed or symlinked to a separate drive and a restore seems inadequate if you keep everything standard.

though having a 256gb m2 ssd does make it a toss up to keep my adobe products on it.

What , use "Radeons" instead of the new Nvidia RTX series ?
I am a serious gamer , why would I miss trying Real Time Ray Tracing ?
Radeons are good for one on a budget.
AMD excels at that

There's a good custom tweak prog that turns off the auto updates.

Oh I know that, and personally I do use powershell. But others may want typical security updates. Therein lies the rub.. all or nothing, where it used to be an option.

I'd rather not use a program to change things, rather a PS script that I know exactly what is done, so I am not left wondering why I can't search for things installed, as they tend to go anywhere these days..

You gotta break windows to be able to see inside, these days..
