I don't get it. Why would we stop at $15 an hour? Why not $150? Think of all the tax money we would get if everyone made over $300k a year, the country would be flowing in cash.

Bernie is a stupid, hypocritical, lying Communist.

More at 11.

When I first joined the the work force. I got my first full time job. I lived in Florida in a tourist based town. I worked in a restaurant kitchen. I made 9$ an hour. 40hrs X $9 $360 a week. They would pay Overtime if you were willing to work it. Taxes took maybe $60 a week. My rent was half of $525. I rented a two bedroom apartment. Had a roommate I was 19yrs old. My rent was $275 for the month. Water and cable were included. Electric was $70 a month if we had the AC blasting. I could usually pay all my Bill's in one week.

Now I'm a Sous Chef. I live in Key West my rent is $1900 a month, electric bill $120, water and sewage $90. I work all the time.

When we are hiring we start at $16 or $17. If you have experience and aren't a full on idiot. You can get $20 or $21 an hour.

Housing has gone so far out of reach. I have a good deal on my apt. But just a one bedroom. $2100 for a one bedroom is pretty normal. Imagine having to come up with First Last Security. $6300 just to move in. Then you owe another $2100 in 30 days. Not to mention electric water and other bills.

I think Bernie is wrong for suggesting a $15 minimum wage. He is also missing the point. The dollar has been devalued in my opinion. To the point current generations feel disenfranchised. They work hard do the right thing. Now they owe thousands in student loans. Only to find out they can't afford an apartment. Let alone buying a house. They will wake up at some point.

hey, where do you find 1 beds for 1300? lmfao.
i HAVE seen steals for apartments, but maybe a dozen in 10 years, compared to THOUSANDS of regular priced apartments.

if you want to live in the east village, 1 bed will be 2k minimum.

People make bad choices too. I graduated debt free and bought a 3br 1600sqft house while making less than a couple earning minimum wage. My mortgage, taxes, and home insurance came to $600/month .. in a nice safe neighborhood in a desirable area.

I am getting more education, we just moved to a 4br 2000sqft house that my wife pays alone because I am not currently working.

Life does not have to be what you say, choices people make turn it into that.

Disclaimer: I am not a Bernie supporter, nor do I support a UBI or socialism, etc...

But it's hardly fair to criticize what Bernie pays his campaign workers. He has to get out there on the road and generate those dollars from donations and speaking fee's, etc. etc. etc..

In other words, he has to actually earn the money, that his staff in turn then earns from him. His staff does not have access to the ever flowing sweetened milk teet, of the American taxpayer. If only he could tap into this, he could pay his campaign workers better.... It's not that he's a hypocrite, or that he doesn't want to. He just cannot deliver these goods and promises without a substantial tax burden upon the populace to pay for it.

Here's where it gets funny... If he can't actually implement this for his own staffers because there's no fiduciary basis, how does anyone think he's going to pull it off on an even bigger scale, like say the size of a 300 million population country ? Lets ignore his ideas never getting through Congress, and pretend he could wave a magic wand and make it happen.... As the number of taxpayers to fund these ideas increases, there is a negative balance that grows along with it. In other words the more people paying, the more people receiving, and thus an scaled increase in costs and coverage.

Anyone who thinks he can do this for the whole country, when he can't even pull it off for his own staff is a moron.

I think we should all just get $100k per year from the government. It's from the government so it wouldn't be coming from actual people so it's fine. We'd all be rich living like kings and queens, (or non cis gendered rulers of some sort that self identify as something else or have an unpronounceable gender).

Seems like they are all lousy at math.

$15.00 X 40 =$600.00
$600.00 X 52 =$31,200

They were paying $36,000.00 or about $17.31 an hour.

I wonder how much their Union dues are.

Spot on.

Another angle about this that bothers me is that we did in fact go to the same high school. We both were and are witnesses to how people live their lives in NYC within the financial parameters of the employees in my OP.

Whether willingly or by accident, he's beyond out of touch, and I have no idea how his perspective could have gotten so skewed. People typically remember and respect their struggles - makes you wonder what changed that for him, or any comparable member of public service.
