No we don't bargain with terrorists. I guess are we talking military action? I believe the Iranian tanker was seized not because of the sanctions on Iran but sanctions on Syria which their oil was bound for.

Will this end up as possibly more escorting of tankers or will the world have had enough and take it to a higher level.

I think it will be the first.

Not posturing. They have now taken one of our ships in international waters.

Isn't that what we did to them ?
They even used a helicopter.

Correct me if I'm wrong but was the British tanker seized by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in international waters and divert it in to Iranian waters?

Correct , the ship was seized on alleged breach of maritime laws.
I think it's more of an embarrassment to the UK than anything else , although the news is in full feeding frenzy.

Why are you so anti UK? Honestly, where do you live?

Their ship was in our waters and doing something wrong. Ie, against international rules. What was our ship doing?

Or are you so anti UK you can't answer?

That is true. I guess the Iranians didn't get the money up front?

Iran has seized a second tanker, US official says

Iran has seized a second tanker, US official says
From CNN's Barbara Starr

Iran has also seized a second tanker, the Liberian-flagged MV Mesdar, according to a US official. Two more US officials tell CNN that, according to maritime intelligence reports, the indication is the Mesdar has been seized. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced earlier that its navy has captured a British-flagged tanker ‘Stena Impero’ in the Strait of Hormuz. The order of seizure of the two ships isn’t clear at this time.

Looks like things are getting even more "interesting"

Just announced that Iran has seized another tanker. That would make 3 in the last 2 days. Yesterday it was a United Arab Emirates tanker. This morning a United Kingdom tanker...and now another one. Ownership unknown.

West Midlands UK.

Or are you so anti UK you can't answer?

I'm obviously not anti UK but I am anti a war with Iran.

What the hell are you talking about ? I condone Irans actions nor am I anti British. I was stating a point on why the Iranian oil tanker was seized because I was misread an earlier post on US sanctions on Iran opposed to US sanctions on Syria which the Iranian oil tanker was heading for before it was seized to Gibraltarian waters.

I'm saying we the British do NOT bargain with terrorists and in which I was stating what was the other course of action. If not diplomacy (since we don't bargain with terrorists) then would we take military action?

I hope we don't and hope some cooler heads prevail in this region to what seems to be a new tanker crisis emerging is prevented.

This isn't news. Iran seized a ship that was smuggling state subsidized oil that was intended for Iran's domestic market. This is a standard law enforcement bust done by the book. These things happen regularly but you never hear about them.

There is an emergency COBRA meeting currently in motion right now I believe. Depending on the events unfolding right now the current PM might condemn Iran's actions in a news conference outside 10 Downing St.

We'll see soon.

No need, this seems to be a standard smuggling bust. The ship was carrying subsidized oil that was meant for Iran's domestic market, it didn't pay tax or duty so it was seized in accordance with standard procedure. Why do you think the ship avoided western navy patrols.

These are smugglers, and it's separate from the current diplomatic situations. You probably get a busy like this every few months but it doesn't get reported on.

First off, I wasn't replying to you. Reading skills could come in handy

Secondly, this is apparently 2 ships they have taken of ours.

Why do you want cooler heads? We took their ship because it was violating INTERNATIONAL sanctions. Why have they taken ours? X 2 apparently? What INTERNATIONAL sanctions have our ships broken??

Explain what we have done wrong and I will look at this again? Until then, they are wrong, committed an illegal act and need punishment.

They need a spanking and God I hope they get it

I realize what they want is relief from sanctions, but at some point enough is enough. No nation can be allowed to interfere with shipping in international waters, the S. China sea not withstanding.

Iran and more so the citizens of Iran are felling the pain of US sanctions , if we keep pushing they will respond as what have they got to lose ... which is probably the plan of John and his mate in the region.

Unless sensible heads take over conflict seems likely.
