I was in San Fernando Valley around Northridge when the initial 6.4 happened and I experienced a strobe-like vibration in my left eye like a
fluorescent light on the way out.
The effect persisted for about an hour inside and outside of the house but did not repeat when the 7.1 happened.
Strange.... Maybe something to do with earthquake lights? If they can produce photons to emit light, why not other energies that could affect the
eye. I know astronauts have reported flashing lights due to high energy particles going through their eyes.
