And the professional photographer didnt bother to take pictures.....lol
I'm not going to say hes lying but without evidence this might as well be a west Virginia hill jack claiming bigfoot took his wife.
He’s talking about fish. Not aliens.

Someone who is a photographer but forgets to take photo's of some 'alien type being' whilst under water filming stuff, is probably not telling the whole truth.
But as some have pointed out, maybe the footage isn't his 100%, so could be liable for prosecution if he does take photo's and puts them online!
A or B?

I'm pretty sure we can rule out his randomly going under the ocean on his own dime, and it's more than likely his experience was while working.
He is the underwater Director of Photography for OceanX and National Geographic, it's very possible he may be able to afford renting the special equipment needed. But not own it, like NatGeo.
At this point every thing any of us have to say is speculation. We could what if it until the sun burns out and still never know.

I believe he is speaking about strange creatures that resembles aliens from another world....
Just making it sound more fantastic then it is, selling tickets.
I am sure he would have snapped a picture if he seen real aliens underwater.
He said they look like giant stingrays
