Actuall headline changed to fit.....

"California clears way to provide health care to some immigrants"

"Democrats in the state Legislature on Sunday agreed to make adults between the ages of 19 and 25 eligible for the state's Medicaid program. Not everyone will get those benefits, only people whose incomes are low enough to qualify for the program. State officials estimate the program will cover an additional 90,000 people at a cost of $98 million."

Say what they want but it will eventually include more than the stated age group and will go past $500 million..

"But to pay for part of it, the state will begin taxing people who don't have health insurance. It's a revival of the individual mandate penalty that had been law nationwide under Obama's health care law until Republicans in Congress eliminated it as part of the 2017 overhaul to the tax code."

In other words California will tax people without health insurance to pay for illegals.

"The budget agreement still must be approved by the full state Legislature. State law requires lawmakers to enact a budget by midnight on June 15. "

It's not to late for Californians to contact their reps.

This will balloon into another boondoggle when they get their foot in the door and expand the program to all illegals..
Get ready to bend over cali...

Haha, so actual US citizens that can't afford health insurance will be further taxed to provide the health insurance they can't afford to immigrants. California is a disgrace!

It doesn't surprise me, an illegal can kill a citizen and get away with it in Cali.

If Barry could't have his dream with the entire US, at least his legacy will live on in California. Until they run out of money that is.

I have a cousin who retired there so he rents a room in Nevada for an address to keep his taxes down and lives in a campground by the ocean. Saves over $1500 a month doing it over what it would cost to be a Cali resident.

Leave it to California... they should just be their own failing country if they want to do things so differently.

Funny, because insurance is a legally binding contract, however in order for a contract to be legitimate and enforceable, the activity in the contract must be legal. By providing healthcare coverage to someone who is in the country illegally, isn't that in itself violating the "legality" requirement for enforceable contracts?

I'm trying to understand this, please be patient, I'm slow.

If you cannot afford health insurance, the government is actually going to punish you by taking more of your money.

Do I have that right?

It appears that way.
Or it might be people that choose to not have insurance are being penalized just like Obamacare had planned.

I think we should treat illegal immigrants humanely and disagree with the whole "invasion" hysteria.

However, this really doesn't make sense. Why are so many on the left losing their rational thought process?

U.S. taxpayers in general will pay 50% of the cost. California Medi-Cal is funded by CA and FEDS.. 50/50 split.

The Trump Admin should NOT increase Uncle Sam's 50% contribution to cover the illegals. US taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for their full-blown medical care like that.

Yep and the kicker is, they are gonna take your money so they can give the health insurance you couldn't afford to someone else that can't afford it and is illegally in the country.

Next thing you know, they will be taxing the homeless to pay to house illegal immigrants. Makes the same amount of sense.

The true face of the socialist. Obey for the collective or be punished.

And this kind of crap is what leftists are voting for.

I'm still really pissed off about the fact that the Supreme Court did not rule the individual mandate unconstitutional (as it is). The idea of it is one of the most toxic and threatening things I have ever seen. Which is why I was not really satisfied with Trump's method of getting rid of it. It doesn't stop it from happening again. It just delays it until the states voluntarily adopt it. Which they will. Or until there's a president who simply overrides Trump and brings it back.

If they want to pay for healthcare with higher overall taxes, that's fine. But specifically targeting individuals for their behavior with higher taxes aimed specifically at them is just plain wrong. It is something that will fester and become a very malignant thing if it is allowed.

You can't tax a citizen who can't afford healthcare, then turn around and use that money to give a non citizen healthcare.
Isn't that treason of sorts?

What self respecting US Citizen would remain living there?
I mean, if you've set up shop and bought land and built a house, and won't be around long enough to do it all again... I could sort of see it- but boy would that suck.

The state of California is a disgrace to this nation, and the citizens supporting this (they must... right? Right? How else does this pass...) don't deserve their citizenship.

Yeah I can't see how the average taxpayer regardless of party affiliation would be okay with this.

Is'nt it about that season again. You know, the one where everything goes up in smoke? No sympathy for the fools there who slog along saying 'ok' to their enslavement. Cali can turn into ashes as far as I'm concerned. And I mean that in a nice way.... ( I'm smiling )..... To bad it's not the pit.... I'd say what I really think.

California is really beautiful. Lots of opportunities out there but I heard the major down side is the cost of living. Plus if you have a good job out there it's hard just to get up and move over politics. Most people just want to live a good life and not have to worry about politics.

But they got it wrong. It wasn't a tax. It was a penalty. Obama denied that it was a penalty as well. So they all denied that it was a penalty (which it was). I don't know how something that is SPECIFICALLY AND DELIBERATELY designed to function as a penalty qualifies as a tax. I mean, it doesn't. But I guess if they had ruled on it according to reality they would have to admit that the entire tax code is designed to function in a punitive fashion. And especially things like fining people for smoking cigarettes and calling it a tax.
