U.S. national security adviser John Bolton said Wednesday that ships sabotaged off the United Arab Emirates coast were attacked “almost certainly by Iran” and warned that the U.S. would strike back if attacked.

This is what bolton was pushing from the start.

The issue was that saudi arabia said two of its oil tankers were sabotaged off the coast of the united arab emirates.

Now the doj is echoing boltons claim but offering no real proof.

The war drums are beating. Is this just bolton finishing his axis of evil fight? The one he helped start under bush jr.?

I will probably get some flack for this but: I think the US needs this.

The Democrats and their media have fractured the US with their malcontent and extreme partisan propaganda. William Barr could potentially pull the country apart with his investigation.

Its time for a distraction and show the world the US is still the world's superpower. Right now, they look like ineffective.

Sorry Iran. You knew this day was coming though. Don't play dumb.

Almost certainly.

" the regime are not going to change and that's why the only solution is to change the regime itself"

Any excuse is a good excuse,

I respectfully disagree.
The usa needs to tend to its own.
The days of being the worlds cop need to end.

Let the saudis take care of themselves.

I think it's far more likely that Bolton and Trump are playing (through the media mostly) an elaborate show of good cop, bad cop to get the Iranians to the negotiations table.

Trump doesn't want war, believes a deal can be made.

Bolton is hellbent on war and Trump is the only thing holding him back.

No reason to even think about getting into another middle east war when you haven't totally extracted yourselves from the previous ones. History has shown even those wars were fought over dubious reasons, this Iran thing even moreso just think its not even approaching the threshold for war yet

When you have an economy that relies on the MIC to keep the money flowing to those that profit from war, what do you expect? It's capitalism, it's business and the MAGA way of the neocons. It's an established pattern.

I hope not, and I don't think it's a probability.

That said, I couldn't think of a better time for any nefarious belligerent to make the first move than in the next week. The MSM and Congress are going to be focused on Mueller's address until at least the beginning of next week.

But I hopefully doubt it.

When did the US wage a war, that wasn't preceded by a massive fake news campaign?

The Saudis have never taken care of themselves and unless I am mistaken, OPEC has a special arrangement with the US military.

I guess this is a big topic but I don't believe that the US giving up its global influence is in anyone's best interest, save BRIC.

Bolton is a war monger and has been for some time. Could this have been done by Iran? Possibly, but after the Gulf War Two and all of that WMD nonsense, I'm going to need more proof than a guy who has been pushing a war with ANYBODY for decades.

Iraq is still a S%^& Show, and going into Iran? With 3 times the population AND the entire population outright hostile to us from day one? Perhaps its time to coin a new term 'Hyper Quagmire"

This is beyond crazy, to think that US hasn't learnt from the ongoing horror shows in Afghanistan and Iraq(and Syria and Libya and half of Africa)is really scary to be honest. We all know it's got absolutely nothing to do with any so called attacks on the Saudis and I'm positive there is something way deeper and more sinister going on than what little we're being told.
Potentially tens of thousands of people dead on both sides, many of them innocent, gazillions of dollars spent and the destruction of untold priceless antiquities and historical sites, all because of a couple of small attacks that anyone with a functional intellect knows are bogus.
Really, it's like the war pigs aren't even trying anymore, they'll attack regardless of public sentiment or pushback.
I seriously don't like the implications of this at all.
After 9/11 America had the goodwill and backing of a majority of the countries around the world but that has now been eroded away to practically zero, Spain just pulled one of its ships from a US carrier group on its way to the Persian Gulf and I can't see many countries being interested in sacrificing thier young men and women for another bloodbath/coalition of the willing.
I'm guessing Australia will because we're a pretty staunch ally like that but by and large if this nightmare becomes reality the US will be going it alone.
Iran on the other hand amongst others has Russian backing.
I just really hope you guys are right about Trump and that he can put a stop to this because without a doubt Iran will 100% be the straw that breaks the camel's back and that is a truly frightening scenario.
I generally regard doom porn as cheap and nasty but this seriously has doom written all over it.

I just can't see how this can possibly end well.
What possible reason is there for yet another full scale war? I'm kind kinda thinking that the US military and war hawks have finally gone batpoop crazy and lost all sense of reason.
None of this makes any sense!

Way back in the last century while stationed overseas I had a buddy with a great talent.

We'd go to the popular bars, the bars servicemen weren't allowed to go.

Of course someone would always pick a fight with us.

My buddy would calmly order a glass of wine and calmly drink it.

. . . . . Then he'd eat the glass.

Smiling.

With blood drooling off his chin.

Ten times out of ten, people would back off because he was NUTS!

We never actually fought. Ever.

Good times.

Good times.

Bolton reminds me of my buddy.

What the???!!
So the deaths of thousands of innocent Persians and the destruction of irreplaceable history is ok, because the US people need a "distraction"??
Do you seriously believe, after witnessing the bloodbaths in Afghanistan and Iraq, that America will just roll on in, lob a few missiles and everything will be ok again?

Wow, sorry, but the total disregard for human life you have just displayed is sickening!
It's like the last 20 years didn't even happen.

You seriously want to bomb the crap out of a culture and people that have been there for thousands of years so the US will look more "effective"?!
Most Iranians are just like the rest of us, just wanting to work and raise a family in peace and stability.
Are they the ones "playing dumb"?
I'm generally happy letting people think and believe whatever they want but to think that there are people(probably many more like you in the US) that are so cold blooded, callous and short sighted is honestly soul destroying, "Don't play dumb".... Words fail me...

He's working extra hard to support the weight of his mustache. That's for sure. Someday he will wake up one morning and say "That's it man! I've had it! I can't carry this thing around one more stinkin day!"

Really? The MAGA way? Which countries has Trump, so far, invade their nation and remove their leader?

How many? If it's the MAGA way, surely you would have no issue giving me sources for such a ludicruous statement to be made.

I'll go ahead and just say, you don't know what you're talking about and should remain quiet about things you clearly know nothing about.

These days the only "global influence" I am interested in is my kids learning geography.
No one wants our help, and our tax dollars are much better spent at home.
Our outdated 2 front war strategy needs revised and rethought.
Our past mic blunders do not need to be revisited.
Just my opinion.
