Today for the first time in years if ever, i heard on radio that DOD declared Iran a 'Credible Threat'.

And online that nuclear-capable bombers are being deployed to the Persian Gulf s:

Wondered what constituted that threat, ie, satellite images of WOMDs or the like?

Apparently, just 'readiness' per the article below:

www.reuters.com...

Pentagon said the step was taken in response to “indications of heightened Iranian readiness to conduct offensive operations against U.S. forces and our interests.

No. It's a normal rotation once again blown out of proportion. They have deployed B-52s as part of the Bomber Task Force for years.

Nuclear capable does not mean carrying nukes.

But I do have to wonder about the kerfuffle. Where are the color glossy 8x10s with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one?

Jared is all set to reveal his big peace plan and stuff. The plot clots.

It's obviously being hyped to send a message, even if all the assets in the area are normal and routine. I read somewhere else today that Iran is moving ballistic missiles on boats and positioning them on islands around the Straight of Hormuz.

This is one "credible threat" of supposedly many in the region, but no-one has been informed of the specifics..

It's all part of the games played in the region. Iran threatens the Straits, we react, they do something else, we react, then everyone steps back and it's all forgotten about again until the next time.

Moving missiles by the boats? Why they wanted to do that? The entire Persian Gulf coast sides are connected with the roads, why they need to use boats….? They have the ability to fire any kind of defensive/offensive missiles from the mainland at range of +2000 kilometres round the country at any points, but suddenly decided to move their missiles by the boats?

Sounds fishy statement.

I am sure that they have installed needed missiles both short and medium ranges on those islands long time ago.

Personally I think it's a test to judge how easy to fool the American public are. To see if they can push the U.S. into another for profit war.

Iran has never been and most certainly is not a threat to the US in any way.

Despite the occasional rhetoric Iran is probably, certainly historically, the most peaceful country in the area.

Nuclear capable is a pretty meaningless term.

The US already has full capability at Diego Garcia, so why is this a big deal? An attack can be launched targeting anything attached to the Indian ocean and 1000+ miles inland.

Cheers - Dave

Wow, that’s pretty interesting if true, a brigadier general of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard defecting to the US!

I’m not familiar with the source how credible is it?

Might have to see if there’s more sources for this story

The planes are a visible deterrent, they should be more worried about what the navy has under the water that they can't see.

The US and other nations sails boats around with missiles. Must be something visitors to the area get to do.

Always quick to show force or intimidated small and poor countries.

Why are we doing this again? Anyone asking?

I think it is the national pastime of the country. Plus, every so often a war, which makes certain people rich, breaks out.

Agree, I think that if it ever does kick off, these irresponsible, idiotic journalists should be given the first try of what a nuke actually tastes like, just so they can sample what it is they're trying to sell

People should pay more attention than to just the MSM. Every four to six months a new group of bombers rotates to the UAE and takes over the air support mission over Iraq and Afghanistan. Currently it's B-1s, but guess when they arrived in theater.

Not every B-52H is nuclear capable. Some 30 of the fleet are currently conventional only. The B-1Bs are completely conventionally armed as per the treaty with Russia.

B-52Hs

B-52 Denuclearization Set to Begin Air Force Global Strike Command will begin denuclearizing 30 B-52H bombers to conventional-only configuration within the next nine months to meet limits under the New START agreement. “We’ll be starting that process and it's basically going to be a box … it will be outboard visible … so you’ll be able to tell which ones are modified,” AFGSC boss Lt. Gen. Stephen Wilson said on Thursday. “We’ve already looked at it, tested it, and now [we] just need to get it in production,” he added at AFA’s Air Warfare Symposium in Orlando. Under the New START agreement both the United States and Russia must cut nuclear arsenals to 1,550 deployed warheads, 700 deployed launchers, and 800 deployed and non-deployed launchers by February 2018. Wilson said AFGSC will “easily make that” deadline and actually plans to meet New START limits by 2017, to give room for unexpected complications. “We're on a path both with the bombers and the ICBMs … but there’s still a significant amount of labor that has to be done,” he said.
