Capitalism is the best suited global economic structure to assimilate environmentalism.

When "debating" the pros and cons of capitalism (and everything else) it is interesting that we always miss the actual point. And that is that humans are the only animals that exist (that we know of) that need any of this crap. We are fundamentally a freak of nature. There isn't a shred of evidence to the contrary and everything about human beings is in direct conflict with nature.

As purplema says, capitalism is fast-tracking human civilization to oblivion, and has already driven many animals and plants to extinction. In order to maximize consumption it has to create markets for material goods, many of which we do not need and would not otherwise want. Advertising, the mass-media and politicians have succeeded in creating a pervasive capitalist ethos, which is responsible for much of what we think we need or want.

It is not only inefficient as a mechanism for supplying our real needs, but guaranteed to destroy the planet's capacity to do so.

Currently there is no significant alternative. All countries operate within a global capitalist economy.

both capitalism and communism are corrupt systems that killed and are killing millions of people around the world. Can anybody forget the genocides that soviet union committed across the world, can anybody forget the genocides China has committed and is committing, can anybody forget Capitalist's crimes and oppression against our own people here in US!
