I’m not buying this. There are lots of crazy stories and people who make up things, especially in Asia, for money and/or attention. This seems physically impossible and is more likely fiction.

Ummm...A shout out to OpethPA whose thread was closed...about this very subject...

OpethPA's thread title is actually a very good Haiku...

Feeding off tears

That image makes me uncomfortable...

We've got tiny biting flies up here in Alaska by the boatload... white socks, no-see-ums, and of course our legendary mosquitoes, but none of them go for the tear ducts, thankfully.

A haiku is 5-7-5... that was not 5-7-5.

Studies disagree and these studies were done where this is reported.

It didn’t hurt, Bänziger reported. In some cases a bee was so gentle he wasn’t sure if it had left until he used a mirror for confirmation. But when multiple bees came for a joint drink-fest, which might last an hour or more, things could turn itchy.

Well, that's terrifying. A new addition to my list of phobias, goodness me.

May the sweat bees of a thousand He's nest in your eyes, Sir. You're arguing semantics. Your site says it is 5-7-5 sounds in Japanese, not syllables because Japanese doesn't recognize syllables. We're not in Japan and, last I checked, a syllable is essentially the sound a group of letters makes, so your point is moot and the 5-7-5 rules still applies. If HaikuLords want to argue the point, we can always count the number of sounds in Hiroshima and Nagasaki to resolve the argument properly.
