Survival of the fittest is a myth. See peacock.
How do you define masculinity and what would it be good for in todays world?
Those who adapt survive.

Maybe masculinity is needed for mental health and stability? Look at the high, high rates of death either due to gang violence or due to suicide in young men.

Maybe the problem is pressure put on them to be some kind of "man" while there's no way to live up to that mythical creature in their reality?

Or perhaps the problem is life in a society that tells them they are always wrong just because they are what they are. Imagine being a an active young boy and having an urge to be active because your biology tells you to constantly being in trouble and then your family starts putting you on pills because "it's wrong" and living on medications all your life. Then having urges to still be active and and play in active ways, games you're told are wrong and violent and horrible all your life, and then being diagnosed with something else because of it and getting slapped with more pills.

No matter what you do, you can't change your biology and everyone tells you that just by being you, you're bad and wrong and toxic and you're constantly medicated for it.

That's boy life today.

Sounds great huh?

Sometimes not having emotions is the best way to get things done.

That's not at all what the OP is about. China sissy school is the topic. Not falsely diagnosed with adhd because the parents can't handle their kids.
So okay yeah, not what I wanted to discuss...

The main thing I think of when I think of masculinity is toughness.
I think that is lacking in a lot of men today. Why would that be good in today's world?
#1, competitiveness. It is that competitiveness that launched the US as a world power.
Maybe we are adapting to the wrong things.

An absence of emotion is ALWAYS the best way to get things done.

It is rarely the most HUMAN way to get it done, which is where the problems arise.

ADHD is an easy thing to get wrong though. We could have made that mistake very, very easily. Between an auditory disorder, high activity level (he's an intelligent boy), disorder of written expression, and high levels of anxiety our kiddo crosses off a lot of the boxes that get earmarked for ADHD.

And boys get tagged for it a lot more than girls do because boys are more prone to being active to begin with and their nature makes them prone to acting out for every other problem. Why? Because they are boys! And in today's classroom environment, teachers expect them to behave like little girls at the start.

In short, my point is that a lot of boys get medicated for being boys.

Nail on the head!!!

25 years ago, maybe one or two children in school were said to have ADHD. Now every other boy has it.

And yes, this directly ties into the OP. Boys acting like boys get punished. China obviously sees the error and is trying to change that.

There still are plenty of competitions you can sign your kid up for. Even beauty paegants teach you toughness. And China probably has the most competitive school systems in the world. I don't think that's it.

Sadly, it will be the woman, the gays, and the army that will be upset that there no more men around to fill the void.

You aint never seen Whitetail deer or Moose in a rut I take it. Peacocks!!!!!! bwahahhhaha. You picked the most sissified animal on the planet. How bout standard chickens? Throw a bunch of roosters in with one hen and see what happens. Its called a pecking order.

As far as masculinity goes, would you want A. a stay at home ponce, who is happy for you to give him a weekly allowance in return for cooking and ironing, but cant change a lightbulb or, B. someone who goes to work, earns some dough and fixes the washing machine belt, mows the yard and knows how to fix the car.

Masculinity isn't about grabbing some pu$$y, and disrespecting people. Thats called a penis cranium.

There are a lot of examples for boys. During their early years they have a ton of energy, they want to squirm and yell and be active. Schools hate that.

Guess who else hates that... pretty much everyone. Sounds like you are advocating for the very passive parenting that has become a real problem nowadays. My dad would have laid me out for squirming and yelling in public.

Notice all the headlines of teachers taping children's mouths and stuff is almost always about boys. When I grew up boys were allowed to play with fake guns and knives and play cops and robbers. They were allowed to be active and jump around and play with dirt.

Where are all these headlines? Most teachers are scared to do anything now because parents all think their kids should have free reign to do whatever and have become ridiculously sue-happy.

All that said, I don't know what world you live in where kids aren't active and jumping and playing in the dirt. That is still happening everywhere.

For girls I'll give you a perfect example. My daughter has long hair, VERY long beautiful feminine hair.
A week doesn't go by without someone telling her to cut it. Complete strangers have said she should donate it to cancer patients. Um.. she is kinda wearing it..

This (girls with short hair) has always been happening. This is merely fragile outrage on your part for no good reason. Plenty of little girls out there have long hair. One thing I really remember from being a kid (70s) was little girls always grabbing scissors when their moms weren't looking and cutting their own hair. Happened all the time. And who's to say that shorter hair can't be feminine. Trends come and go. Short hair was popular for women in the 20s. Then again in the 50s (Audrey Hepburn). Then later 70s & 80s (think Dorothy Hamill). And then in full swing in the 90s and onward. This is just short sighted protest and attempting to pin something on the left cause feelings.

Boy, 5, says teachers taped his mouth shut, threw away his lunch

www.greeleytribune.com...

Staff had the students involved come to the office to write out statements, and a school resource officer spoke with the boy who was taped. He told the officer he thought the teacher had taped his legs, chest and mouth with masking tape to teach him not to get out of his seat, but he didn’t understand why she taped his mouth, according to the report.

That sentiment is exactly the problem, NO there is nothing wrong with girls with short hair, but it is also OK to have long hair.

It's ok to be gay, but is also ok to be not gay or effeminate, but according to some it isn't.

Kids in general cut their own hair. Most of us do it to ourselves at least once or we try it on our sibling (or the family pet -- that was mine). It's not just a "girl" thing. I've seen boys do it too. My cousin tried to give himself a rat tail and ended up having to be shaved nearly bald.

As for the hair length thing, I don't think it was about whether or not the kid has long hair, but about others telling her daughter to cut her hair. Why? Why tell a girl to cut her hair off? If she wants to, she will.

As for boy's activity level, she's not wrong. Boys want to do that. They do want to squirm and yell and be active. That isn't about being a permissive parent. It's about recognizing that while you can get a boy to behave, his tolerance for sitting primly and properly in his seat is much, much shorter than most little girls' tolerance for the same thing will be. He's going to need to get up and move around. He's going to need recess because while you may be able to successfully keep him bottled up, that extra energy is still in there and it will interfere with his ability to think and concentrate on whatever it is you're trying to teach him.

I hope no one is punishing anyone for calling someone "ma'am". They're learning to call their instructors and judges "sir" and "ma'am" right now in martial arts.

What would masculinity be good for in this day and age? If they grow up without developing it maybe it's a sign that's a trait they simply never needed.
Plastic in food and all the other poisons in food and water affects mostly organs like the brain. We are not fish, it doesn't make us androgynous.

To make sure your dumb ideas aren’t followed through by might makes right!
Kidding (a little)
My son is masculine I think. He’s 14, muscular, total athlete, hunts, loves to fish and ride dirt bikes. If he came to me at 18 and said I like dudes, I would be shocked, but he would still be masculine.

I think we have taken the meaning of masculine and associate it with a bully, or a jerk. Those are different things, and not at all what being masculine should be. An effeminate person runs funny, and squeals when startled. Lol

Guess what's not really a problem. Your examples are just a few anecdotes being used to spread an agenda (left is bad!). Teachers are not running rampant taping boys mouths shut. What is really happening?

Allentown teachers speak out: Disruptive students run the schools

Who Killed School Discipline?

Teachers shouldn’t have to manage behaviour issues by themselves – schools need to support them

Minnesota Teacher: “We’re Powerless to Discipline”

Metro Nashville Students So Out of Control Teachers Fear for Their Lives, SROs Fleeing from Alternative Schools, Educators, Officials Say

Letters: Teachers are afraid to discipline students

Slack parenting, which you seem to be advocating, is the real problem.

Nice deflection, you said

Where are all these headlines?
, and I provided the headlines, there are many more.

I do agree teachers aren't just going around taping mouths shut, but they are putting pressure on boys, to not act like boys.

You mean like the boy calling a teacher ma'am? Yeah, real slack parenting!
