That used to be the case but not as much now as it used to be. There will always be jobs that require a degree and that is as it should be. But there are a lot of jobs that pay very well that only need a performance certificate of some kind or just experience.

With modern education being what it is, the idea that someone stuck it out for four years isn't as flattering as it used to be. If anyone were to ask, I would say the only degree worth getting right now is Chem-E. Whether bio or industrial a good Chem-E can pretty much write his own ticket right now. That isn't going to change any time soon.

Other than that, I would pursue as many certificates as I could find in my chosen field and go from there.
