This is absurd, I don't know what the New Zealand Government is pulling but this is bad, very bad.

First of all, the citizens of New Zealand need to be able to defend themselves from hostile foreign potential invaders. They've got the Chinese on their doorstep and have to be able to repel an invasion. Without semi automatic guns, those folks might as well say farewell in advance and start digging vacant graveyards. All it would take is the right to bear arms and they'd be alright, China, Vietnam, even Russia for that matter aren't foolish enough to try them.

Not only that, but now the government is one step away from a full takeover. They won't be able to defend themselves from tyrannical or totalitarian governments from taking them over if the popular opinion is against it. That's exactly what's going to happen or even worse, the government is in cahoots with foreign powers disarming their population in advance.

This will never happen in the United States, no worries whatsoever. The Canadians or the Mexicans will never invade and take the country. Even though they could probably defeat our military single handedly, and with them combined it would be quick, they'd never try it because we have the second amendment right to bear arms and we'd embarrass them in house to house street fighting with our semi-auto AR-15s and Call of Duty training. You think I'm joking, but that game and those like it are training simulators just like the armed forces have and yes, the games are proliferated and so popular for a reason, it's not just because their graphics and gameplay are so good. They're so good on purpose. We're better shots with semi versus their full auto. The kickback from the full auto makes it inaccurate and a waste of ammo.

Most of our neighborhoods might only have one or a few people with a semi-automatic rifle or small collection but they keep them to pass them out to neighbors in the case of a foreign or domestic organized assault. I don't even have to own one because people like you guys have small arsenals for this very reason. Thank you by the way. I doubt you get appreciated for it often because of liberal politics demonizing you. We know what they're up to. It'll never happen here.

Well, your sentiments are well placed, but there is NO WAY Mexico could defeat the US Military...on it's own turf. No way, no how...not EVER!!! Canada would never even have a notion or reason to. Canada and the US are the strongest alliance and deterrent in the World, and certainly the Americas. Canada and the US defend an entire continent, not even China or Russia can say that!

Mexico would be defeated, errr decimated, within hours not days against the US military! It wouldn't even be a "fight". There would be a declaration, a 10 second break for networks to identify themselves, and a news bulletin of unconditional surrender by Mexico. Just that fast. Mexico has a total of (35) combat aircraft which can be used offensively, and they're all turboprops. Just a couple US F-15's could decimate their entire combat air force in a matter of minutes...and do it un-refueled even.

There were two separate shootings at two different mosques. Last I heard four people have been detained.

The shooter at the first mosque was detained when police rammed his car and took him into custody following the shooting. The second mosque was attacked by (I believe) a second shooter, which there has been little coverage of. At this location, an armed worshiper intervened and returned fire at the shooter who then fled.

That was the same guy at the second mosque who shot up the first mosque.

The “worshiper” didn’t return fire either! He first distracted the shooter from entering the mosque by throwing a credit card machine at him, then when the shooter returned to his car (probably to get another gun, or reload), the “worshiper” picked up a disgarded gun (which was empty) and threw it at the shooters wind screen.

Fact is there is no correlation between gun ownership and mass shootings.

Countries with strict gun control have few mass shootings. Fact.

Countries with less gun control do not have necessarily have more mass shootings. Fact.

This tells us two things about the US.

First, that the US is no kind of example for countries that already have strict gun control.

Second, that the US has a peculiar problem all of its own. Your answer is within you and it has nothing to do with gun control.

And let's not start on the ridiculous idea that being armed protects you against tyranny. Saddam Hussein required every adult male to keep a firearm at home...

Santayana was referring to an educated population being the best defence against tyranny. If they are not properly taught the lessons of history, they cannot learn what it is to be free.

Which brings us on to the reality of an armed population versus an advanced military force. History shows us that, without outside support and without some reticence on the part of the military, the armed population is toast. Heck, look up the Battle of Kursk and tell us what even a million trained people with AR15's on either side could have done differently.
